Maxton Mile Report Sept 07 (faster & slower again)

I'll make it quick since I'm sleepy, sunburned, dehydrated, hungry and sipping on my 2nd beer getting ready for bed.

Got to the track with 16/44 gearing (strip)...decided to wring its neck n/a since the zx14 with a 3 mill overbore (1452cc) ran 191 n/a....

BAM 192.4 ... it was ridiculously easy actually....running no spray I tend to not make mistakes  That extended rev limiter came in handy 8)

Sunday decide to spray...went 18/46 instead of my usual 18/45 ... however the big 3 Hs loomed:

Headwinds, heat, humidity :x

Not only did it take its toll on the bike, but on me too. Just a few minutes in gear and in staging and I was melting, as we all were, felt dizzy sometimes...

Making shifting mistakes I ran 198.5 mph :x

Do it again, this time double bottles 197.xx :x :x

FUCK THIS, NOW ITS ON. But the harder I try the more my worn Pirelli spins in protest screaming THIS IS NOT A DRAG STRIP A-HOLE, chill!

WTF....194? :

And to top it all off....my last run I was running so low fuel (my reserve light no longer works, guess I found out on this run  ) that on spray in 5th and spray it was cutting out like someone hit my kill switch. I swore the motor blew but I stayed on the button and throttle

rpms are coming in and out....6th.....it wakes up.... :P but too little too late....I'm crouched down to the point where it hurts everything :? ... all I needed to see was a lil over 12k to get 200....high 11s....never could recover in time....191.xx

Lesson learned, went slower on spray but faster than I ever have before n/a. Also, 16/44 gearing worked well n/a, I shoulda gone 17/44...but I got a lil hungry and wanted more mph so I went 18/46....given the conditions it made me look slower but for the conditions I did ok....just need to get that air shifter on. I can say I was woozy about 1/2 the runs due to the heat. Shit happnes, I'm just gonna regear for TX mile in 2 weeks.

I also broke my GPS since it didn't record my speed on my 198 run....I have a very short fuse when electronics don't work. YOU DON'T WORK? THATS IT...YOU'RE OUTTA HERE....SMASH!

I'll have to borrow someone's GPS to see where exactly I am at with my next gearing choice for 200 mph for TX

Hey Ali,
Thanks for the recap, all that frustration and heat musta been a BEAR!!

Good news on Texas Mile weather: EntropyWeather is predicting 70F, 32"Hg, 20mph tailwind; bring some tall gearing.

Q: I thought Dr Phantom was going to showcase his DOUBLE-TOP-SECRET-STEALTH Supercalifragilisticexpeialidocious build at this Maxton event. I was mentally cheering him on but no mention??

Good to see you again Ali.

It was hot for sure and all the bikes & cars were down on speed but the fun was still there.
I didn't run, just pitted for the boys.
Zack took his new 14 with pipe and PC, best was 194+. I believe faster speeds are there just not with the dreaded 3-H's Ali mentioned.
Chad won the Super StreetBike Magazine 1000cc class shoot-out with a 201+ on his ZX10R. He got a nice jacket for the win and now it's my job to keep him from installing nitrous on his bike, he's wanting the little ten faster!!!

Chad rode the red 14 Ali was talking about to a couple of passes of 200+, just barely over but it did break 200 on motor. It was stretched and with the power it made Chad could not keep it from spinning even in the higher gears. The carbon wheels and with Chad having no lead in his britches didn't help things.

We're all home safe and the bikes are still running..........all in all, a good week-end.

Dan, it was a great time....your boys can seriously ride....if only I could make full use of my weight advantage like that! That 14 was spinning out the hole, I remember that, even in 2nd!

Greg, the owner, was happy it went 201...he was pretty frustrated and wanted to make sure it was HIM, not the bike.

Good seeing you again....and just admit it....the Ninja 500 has to be the UGLIEST motorcycle ever made!

It would be cool if you & your boys could come out to TX in 2 weeks....we need more Kawis going 200 out there. Given the headwinds in TX....a smaller, experienced rider on a strong Kawasaki is needed to punch 200. I'll bump up the nitrous by maybe 5-10 hp and gear for 201-202 on the rev limiter....fingers crossed! Oh yeah, bump up the fuel too, right? Haha.

There were so many zx14s out, this was the first time there were more Kawasakis than Suzukis! At least it seemed like it.

Ali, Texas might be a little hot as well, hope we get a cool front in!

Becareful driving down! One of these days you should pack up Mr. Hill

Me and the boys really have been wanting to come down but it's tough trying to get time off for everyone, all of the wives love it so there's alot of scheduling to do.
Me and momma will be working in Arkansas at the Bike, Blues & BBQ that week-end........but there's always next year!
Good luck to all that run, be safe & have a great time.
Dan

Oh yeah...it hot & humid, 90+ degrees and 90% humidity both days except early Sunday morning.

The "ONLY" Problem Ali has to overcome is Himself[/vb] Every event is is the same thing and it has const him his leathers his Bike and is he does not stop, his Life! You are joust going to have to find out how to do what you do with enough "SLEEP" in your body! Yes, you are Young, but you have overused that to the point where I am maybe better off than you are!

I ran 181.6, Racheal ran 178.5 on her Gixxer. Hopefully better numbers next month with the cooler air...

Good to see everyone again...

Congrats to all the new record holders...

Please, spare us all the theatrics, Karl. =) lol

Yes, there is a lot of G4 classified information on my bike that is not up for discussion, such as engine specs and the bodywork.... but that's simply to maintain a competitive edge. I admire anyone who can/will generously throw out all information about their build-ups... but in my case, I spent a lot of money on testing many different things on the ZX-12R in order to produce an extremely, extremely strong engine package and bike set-up.

How strong? Well... 195mph on GPS in just 6/10th's of a mile in the middle of the everglades (swamp air = bad).... and we've still got many different things to try. We're expecting 203-204mph ALL MOTOR when it's all said and done in the 9/10th's with NO WIND ASSISTANCE. That translates into roughly 205-206 at Maxton due to the extra distance and better air.

Then to top it all off... I've got a 9/10th's race lined up with Shiphteey in December, It would be unwise to give any information out that he can use to better set-up his bike against mine.

ANYWAY, long story short.... the "supersecret-double-triple-stealth-G4classified" ZX-13R will be showcased in October when everything we'd like to try has been tested and we have a final-spec on both the engine and chassis.

Hey, there isn't any way you'd be able to make it out to Maxton in Oct., is there? Here at ACE PERFORMANCE, we're taking up 2 very strong ZX-12R's. With Shiphteey possibly bumping up the juice to a 60 shot instead of the 40.... it's very possible to have 4 ZX-12R's running OVER 200mph.

The ZX-14 guys would poop their pants. lol

I think the fastest ZX-14 N/A went 191mph at Maxton at this last event. 1450+cc 3mm bore... yada yada yada. It would be fun to pick on all the 14's with our little 12's.

My oldest went 194+ on his piped & PC 14 at Maxton last week-end and Chad made a couple of passes on the 14 you're talking about to 200+.

I think we can all agree that your sons are the exceptions in this case. There's no secret behind it.... superlight jockeys will go exceptionally fast on anything. The point I'm trying to make is that nobody is really going that fast on the 14's just yet.

Phantom,
I bought a new 14 for my everyday bike, it's so much better of a bike for me than my 12 has ever been.
That being said when it comes time to build one for going fast, I'll go with my 12. I'm so sick of everyone saying "it's about time that Kawasaki came out with something to beat the 'Busas" when in fact the 12 has always been the bike, it just never got it's dues.

Me and momma will be working at Biketoberfest during the Oct. Maxton meet or I'd be there, Sal had some good things to say about your 12 and I for one believe him. I'm looking forward to hearing some great numbers.
Good luck.
Dan

Phantom,
You have been very persistent with the build and aeros and I am truly anxious to see you succeed.
All motor 12's are a bigger challenge than all motor Busa's and most people just give up after a while. Go get em in Oct!!!!!

Oldkawboy- I've got no doubt in my mind that the 14 is a better streetbike than the 12R. The smoothness of the dual counterbalancers, the meaty midrange, and of course the curb appeal of its badging. I also agree 1000% that the ZX-12R is every bit the Busa-contender that it was meant to be. If Kawasaki did a better job marketing the ZX-12R, they would have sold many more. More sales = More Aftermarket interest = More FAST 12's. To be perfectly honest though, I'm hoping to see some FAST 14's soon. If not, I'll be in the market for a 2008 Hayabusa as my daily driver.

Warp12- Yes, Dales bike will be coming. I'm sure it will run very strong. It's not uncommon for an 1199cc ZX-12R to hit 200mph when it's been tweeked and tuned to the teeth. In fact, years back, GP Cycles here in Miami did up a 2000 ZX-12R with stock pistons that went 199mph in 9/10th's ALL MOTOR. That was back in 2000.... there's a lot more parts and go-fast technology since then for the 12R. Think about it.... if my 1287 runs 204-205mph at Maxton, it's not crazy to think that a similarly set-up 1199cc 12R can run within 5mph. Remember, Piston kits give you TORQUE, not so much HP up top. In fact, GP cycles also did a 1270cc 2000 ZX-12R at the same time as the 1199cc 12R. BOTH went 199mph in the 9/10th's, but the 1270's would E/T it. Either way, don't get cold feet.... You're the one who called Sal out on that bike, not the other way around. lol

Entropy- Yeah, there's been a lot of blood, sweat, and tears spilt over this project. At times I've wanted to ride it into a lake, but here we are at the final testing/tuning stages with the bike and I'm very impressed with what we've done so far. My only wish is that I would have done it back in 2003 when the ZX-12R was still fighting for it's due respect in the sportbike world. I guess better late than never, eh?
