Went to the Gap again this weekend

A friend of mine with a 'Busa and trailered up with me and we met Slug there. The paving is coming along very well. The surface is great, but the gravel can lead to some exciting times. Seems like the truckers were told that they would be working until 5PM. Well, the road crew was going to work 'till 5 and they stopped the trucks at 2PM and just used all the gravel/tar that the trucks had already brought. The truckers got pissed about the lost time and made sure to run off the inside of the corners and kick LOTS of gravel onto the road from the shoulder.

The folks at the CROT store were pretty cool, they would take a truck and several people and go down the dragon, sweeping the gravel off the corners. They quit at the overlook so from there to the reservoir it got kinda hairy.

The Skyway is still in great condition with no law enforcement of any kind (at least this weekend). We only saw 1 cop the entire weekend. The buddy of mine on the 'Busa is a cop too, so I wasn't too worried about any "drag racing" harassment.

All in all, I had a blast. There is something to be said about being un-employed! Hmm - I dont have anything planned for next weekend.......

Good Lookin Out!!!

I appreciate the info because I'll be there on the 7th for 4 days. I'm hoping the holiday traffic will help to clean up the corners because I hate gravel!!!

Yeah, that was kinda interesting. Hey BMW, I dont know if you are familiar with the area, but in the 25 MPH area of the Foothills Parkway a road forks off to the left. It takes you back into Maryville. AWESOME ROAD! But you need to ride it at night. Its not marked with lanes, the surface sucks and its real narrow. You need to be able to see oncoming cars headlights to tell if someone is coming. It is worth it tho. Its like a mini-dragon.

And if you see a crazy bastid on a YZF600 while you're there, don't follow him down any backroads.

I dunno, as much as I like meeting up with all of the guys here, it gets kinda pricy. My idea of a good gap trip involves a tent. I'm gonna try to make it at least once a month tho, so it won't be long before I'm ready for anudder trip.

Cherohala!!!!

Made me wanna holla!!! That road was awesome!!! We ran it yesterday and then down into Georgia, did about 260 miles and got back early. The Skyway was one hellava good ride. Even got some video with a couple of rigged up camcorders (bungie cords are a wonderful thing!!!). We were runnig the piss outta that road or so we thought until a 96 ZX9R and 02 R1 ran us down!?!?!? We held them off until just to the end and they decided to demonstrate what class they were in!!! Those two were fast!!! There were 7 of us in 2 groups; 4 fast guys (Cobra - 98 ZX9R, Tenn12 - 00 ZX12R, me - 01 ZX12R and Deputy - 00 Busa) and 3 not so fast guys (Leader - 99 R1, GrandMa - 97 YZF1000 and Puddin - 99 ZX9R). The fast guys put about 5 minutes of distance between the not so fast guys, we were haulin ass. The road was clean and the traffic was moderately light so we didn't have to pass too many vehicles. Cobra had a nice quick pace going (he was feeling it!!) with Tenn12 and myself keeping things spaced out nicely and Deputy wasn't too many turns behind. Next thing I knew Deputy was on the Chatterbox talking about "Hey Keith, you gettin ready to have some company, two are comin your way!!!" Not long after that we got slowed by some traffic and Deputy and company were with us. We finally got passed the slow moving cages and and it was on!!! The pace got even quicker with the new guys. We road about 5 minutes and I waved the 96 ZX9 passed because he was pushing me too hard and made me nervous. I thought I'd let him push Cobra and Tenn12 and I'd follow the new guy's line. He didn't let me down and pushed Cobra and Tenn12 even faster. They started putting some distance between me and them. Next thing I new the R1 was in front of me too!!! MoFo passed me so quick I didn't even see it happen!?!??! It wasn't long after that that they got pass Cobra and Tenn12 so I didn't feel so diminished!!! Then the ride was over, we had reached the end. We pulled into a gas station to wait on the not so fast guys, hopped off our trusty steeds, congratulated each other on a hellava ride and got some water to re-hydrate. The two fast guys went to another gas station (probably to gloat) so we didn't see them anymore. 5 or so minutes later the rest of the group pulls up and we tell them about our encounter. They were as amazed as we were because they knew how fast we were going!!! That was just part of my Deals Gap/Cherohala Skyway adventure, I'll post more later with pictures.

Peace

Great stuff BMW, and remember there is always someone faster than you. When I was riding with Ninjaman and Horsepower Mike and Roger on the Cherahola I was going at prolly 90% of my skill, what I thought was pretty goddamn fast following Roger with Mike up front and then Roger decides to pass Mike and within 2 turns they were GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fast is a relative for sure.

No doubt......

Yeah those fucking guys were flying that day for sure. I know you and I were pushing it but it was a fun ride. My bike works much better now than it did then, but we were still hauling some serious ass eh.

That ride ranks up there as one of the best rides I've ever took. Especially wheelying past the State Trooper at over 100mph,....an absolute classic. Roger and Mike are two great guys, I really enjoyed riding with them.

DG3 was awesome IMHO too, I loved the rides we took, and enjoyed all the time hanging out at the cabin. I really had a great time. Hell all the Gap trips have been great. Every trip I have taken over there through the years has been great except for the one where I crashed and burned on Little River Road while riding my '99 ZX-11,totalled that fucker. You remember that road Chris??? Pretty cool ain't it????

Yeah Little River Road was sweet for sure. A nice combination of fast stuff and tight turns. It was funny that day coming back from Asheville when it was getting dark and we said we were going to take it easy on that road but of course, that didn't happen. Man I love powering out of turns on the 12. I'd have to say though Rick the best riding section of the weekend for me was the Blue Ridge Parkway. I just love that road. Even when we blew by that ranger at 70-80 or whatever it was, thought for sure we were toast.

I Know What You Mean Otis

There is always someone faster. I am by far not the fastest of the guys I ride with but I hold my own. Riding within your limits is the key to having fun and the big 12 is quite a workout. Got to stay in shape if I'm gonna throw that thing around!!! I finally started feeling pretty comfortable and confident in the bike and tires to let her rip a little. Now Tenn12 and Cobra were the real fast guys in our group. They know their bikes and ride like it. I figure a 100 more rides like that and I'll really be able to see what this beast will do. I'm going to fiddle with the suspension some more and go from there. We were suppose the do the Blue Ridge Pkwy on Wed but the weather was too iffy and my guys decided to pack it in. All in all we had two days of great riding and I'm pretty satisfied with the trip, especially since there were no incidences. We had a couple of close calls but everyone returned intact.

We are planning on making the Mid Ohio races and will let you know what our plans are. I send you an email with specifics.

Peace
