casing sealant

I feel silly asking this, but do you put any sealant on the area of the crank bolts? It just seems putting sealant around the perimitor only would put stress without any on the inside. Am I over-complicating it?

the manual shows where to put sealant, and none goes around the main bolts. I don't know what you would be sealing there????

I'm not worried about sealing, but equal spacing throughout the casing. It's probably too little to worry about but I thought I would ask.thanx

If you are worried about that, you are using TOO MUCH sealant.

Almost everybody uses too much. Put on a very small bead and then use your finger with a fair amount of pressure to wipe it along the surface. It should be transparent, just barely there. If, when you are finished, you have a small bead sqeezed out, that you can actually grab and peel off like a string, like most people, you used waaay too much. The "squeeze out" should be almost nothing, just barely there.

Remember you are joining two very finely machined parts. They really shouldn't need any sealant at all. You are only filling small gaps caused by flex in the parts.

I always dab some Three Bond on my finger tip then "tap, tap, tap" the sealant around the machined surface. This seems to work alot better than trying to lay down some kind of tiny "bead".
