Muzzy clutch
Anyone buy just the clutch kit and rivet the the gear themselves? It's like a $50 savings Just trying to save a few bucks, not that i'm broke just to much in debt.
Thanks

Except for Karl, the rest of us understand! When you say "KIT"! There is a KIT but it has nothing to do with the Billet Basket as far as I know! You may also want to check the price of a Muzzy Clutch Hub and Schnitz because sometimes they are cheaper than the Muzz Man himself!

Pretty hard to do the basket switch without the correct tooling. Spend the $50. It's well spent.

Thanks Doug, intresting that Muzzy even sells the clutch basket kit. Just wondering if anybody had installed the gear themselves. Like you said $50 well spent.

The Basket kit is not for the sidewalk mechanic do it yourselfer !!!
You know what happens when you try to save yourself $$$, ends up costing double-triple what you could have saved + the aggravation

Same as taking a SHort Cut everyone tells you about! Big Al, I did not know they called the CLutch Basket a KIT! Most Muzzy Clutch Kits are the Steels and Fibers with the Center Sleeve and Hub he drills out

I think he is talking about the billet basket , it's a $50 if you can rivet it to the gears yourself. Not a good deal if you need help IMO.

Yes I was talking about the billet basket kit. I have a good backround in welding and machining. as well as rebuilding engines automotive motorcycle and marine. I also rebuild our own shocks. Just wanted to know what the procedure entailed, and if we were intrested in doing it. Always have gotten a lot of good info off these boards, but don't have the time to post much. Thanks for the info

The 2002 basket oil the clutch better,
Nothing new. 2000 will work, but if given the
chance get the good stuff.
I said it before, Kawi pays their engineers to
make their product better year over year.
They fixed many on the old problem found on the 2000.

Semantics. It's not actually the gear, and like ninja12 says, technically might not be called a defect, and there was a product improvement made.
The 02 and later baskets have a different torque spring setup. The majority of the early baskets that they get in for cores have broken springs and must be rejected. Kawasaki doesn't support the early design with parts and all the gear/hub assys that they send out (and that Muzzys then uses) are the later "improved" part.
