Muzzy or Akropovic

Hello everyone I am a new link in this ZX12 chain of riders I am so happy to see so many people that is as excited about the 12r as I am I ride nothing but Kawasaki bikes and the question I wanted to ask everyone is that I just got my ZX12 2weeks ago and I want the 1270 kit for it 1 is this kit worth it. 2 what is the best exhaust for the bike Im hearing so much about Akropovic but I thought Muzzy made the best system for this bike. I just need a few opionions that would help me alot.

You'll probably hear all kinds of opinions. For me this is the best product and the best support:

Might also recommend you do some searches for past topics which have covered a lot having to do with exhausts...just a thought though.

and the HMF pipe will make you go 8.94 @ 163mph!!

but, aside from the useless info, I think that the support at muzzy's is pretty damn good, but I like the sound, look and build of the Akro pipe better. And while I think it's 'safe' to say that the Akro will NOT be outpowered by the Muzzy pipe, there might be a few more people who say that the Akro will give you a pony or two more right off the bat. They are both so, so equal in peak power.....
and there's no accounting for how person 'A' might have his bike tuned and person 'B' might not....

The Muzzy has more of a brute sound and feel.
It's louder and has much more feedback through the bars.
The Akrap is refined, quite and smooth.(almost like a slip-on). I didn't notice a big difference in power.

Are you a rough-neck or a gentleman?
The Muzzy on the 12 WILL get you attention.
I like both, but the Akrap is sweet when you spend lots of time in the seat.

It's just gonna have to be your choice. I like the Muzzy myself. But besides the look/sound, these guys are close to where I live, and I can get parts in a day or two.

Most long time board members will stay out of the tire, oil, pipe debates. I replied because of the new members. They need to be aware of some time learned facts. The fact is, the 12 responds GREAT to pretty much all pipes. From the top pipe manufactures there is very little performance differences. You may see a trade off of low/mid power for top end. Several top pipes have produced over 180rwhp on stock motors with some other bolt-on mods and tuning. To say that ANY ONE pipe is far superior is not accurate. These WONDER pipes such as the "Serpent" Micron, usually end up making the same power as the others. Now we have the Hindle step-pipe, and from preliminary crud tests by a couple of members it turns out that it makes more power at the low/mid end and less at the top then the Akro (Which makes the Muzzy and Hindle similar). Yes it makes more then the regular/old Hindle but now it's right in the ballpark of the other top pipes. From what I've seen in several dyno charts on Akro piped bikes is that you sacrifice a little low/mid for top end. The one thing I can say is the Hindle looks (Quality) like JUNK compared to most other pipes. TIME is the only thing that will tell if a pipe is better then the rest, and time has proved that the top pipes are pretty much equal. The only difference is quality, sound, and brand name. Now if you can see past all the bullshit you will see that it's just a matter of personal preference. Now "Bang For The Buck", I don't think the stainless/alum. Muzzy full system can be beat, at under $600 retail. Now on the top end it's a matter of personal preference. I personally haven't seen a better looking/quality pipe then the full Ti Muzzy. When I was looking at ALL the pipes that were available, I thought the full Ti Muzzy was constructed better then even the Akro, it has polished billet end caps with stainless machine screws for easy maintenance. It has a ONE piece head pipe, THREE total pieces and a couple springs. It doesn't get any simpler then that. As far as welds, yes the akro's are a little cleaner but at the time I was comparing stainless to Ti, and the Muzzy Ti was very close. The Muzzy is probably lighter then all the others, it can make as good or more power (With the proper tuning) then any other pipe (regardless of what you may read on these boards). Again, if you take the best results from each top pipe manufactures and put them together you will see that they are VERY close. To me, besides quality and performance there's support and sound. I think we can all agree that Muzzy (Mostly Doug) has the best customer support. Then there's sound, as far as the BADDEST sounding pipe there is, we all have agree that the Muzzy pipe is BADASS! If you have a built 12 (Or any other built motor) the Sidewinder is the Baddest of the Bad!

Bottom Line - Pipes, oil, and tires are ALL a matter of personal preference! It's all good.

RE-Best Pipe

Last Month @ cycle barns' Horsepower shootout,my 12 beat all comers. Although there were many other 12s and alot of Busas, my 12 was the only bike in its class with an Akrapovic exhaust. The next closest bike, a built 1400 Busa came up 2 HP less then my 12. Go figure.....
Two years ago, I did alot of research on this subject, and decided to go with the Akra and haven't been sorry. I saw a 17 HP increase @ Redline and a 13 max HP increase. I did notice a slight drop in low end torque however. Because the AKRA is quieter than other after maket systems, it doesn't draw attention from the man.

Akropovic

I like my Akro for the reasons just stated. You don't have to have a pc-3 if you don't want one.The power is smooth with no stumbles. It is the best pipe for the street in my opinion.Being quiet has saved me tickets from the man.

You'll be happy with either.

For the longest time, the best "stock" numbers I had see was from Harry's old 12R with an Akro. That was until Dave's old 12R with a Muzzy topped it. "Stock" is limiting the modifications to filters, PCIII and advancer.

Numbers don't mean a whole lot to me (spoken like a true sore loser), but I am pleased with the performance improvement provided by my Muzzy Ti/CF system. As far as noise goes, It really hasn't bothered me that much after 31K+ miles. Huh? I'm sorry I couldn't hear ya...

Just once I'd like to buy something on Dragbike.com and not feel like an idiot...I know other people have luck there but I usually wish I'd just bit the bullet and paid full price. I'd recommend one of those escrow services.
AS far as the Muzzy, I love mine (full Ti). Whatever any other pipe will make, this pipe SOUNDS awesome. I like to ride around in the low gears just makes me happy .

My two cents...this may sound dumb but I'm just happy with my stock exhaust. It's soooo quiet that the man never hears me. I like that whole stealth affect. Besides, the bike is hella fast as it is.

I guess I'm the only one that thinks Muzzy sounds like shit. [shrugs] Read too many posts about Muzzy's idle hunt problem. No thanks. What pipe is on those Kawasaki ads with Ben Bostrom in it? Oh yeah...Akrapovic.

Any thoughts on Jardine??? They sound soo loud on my buddy's RC51 but they dont look nearly as nice as the Muzzy setup.

Plus, wont the carbon fiber on exhausts start to peel off after some amount of time?
