no oil pressure
Hi all,
MY 2000 X12 (12k miles) fell off of its side stand yesterday while running. Today I changed the oil and restarted it and found that the oil light stays on. I let it run about 15 sec, and tried another restart - same result. The oil sending unit appears to be untouched and is properly connected. Also, the oil level in the sight glass has not changed or discolored. I am using Castrol GPS 10W 40(red color) which should mix with the remaining oil and discolor when it circulates.
Sooo, it looks like my oil is not circulating and, if the light is correct, I have no oil pressure to boot!
What could be wrong? Broken pump shaft? Stuck bypass valve?
Anything I could do before removing the oil pan and filter tomorrow? I hate to waste all of that fresh oil.

Re: No oil pressure
Try unscrewing the oil filter a bit and then starting it to get rid of a possible air lock in the system. As soon as the oil starts pumping at the filter have someone quick tighten it again. Good luck! -ZXtra

I have that problem after every oil and filter change. Either do the filter thing or just bump the starter numerous times until you see the oil pressure light flicker. The light should stay out once started after that. If it starts while bumping the started make sure to shut it off immediately.

Whew, Thanks Boys........It was indeed a vapor lock!!
With the filter loose it was quite clear that the oil pump moves a rather large volume of oil - when its primed.
