ZX12 starts then DIES!!!
Ok, have a 2000 zx12 that will start up and run then die after about 3-5 mins. The bike will not start again for a few hours after it cools down. After the bike dies spark is lost. I have tried another known good ECU, ignition switch and have checked all grounds and power coming into the ECU and them are all good. When I check for an Fi code it just lights up and stays on. Ive checked all the main fuses, tried a new fuse block, and a few other things. The bike does not have a power commander on it so thats out. If anybody has any ideas on what could be causing this please help me out I need my 12 back on the road. thanks!!

What method did you use to determine there is no spark?

pull a plug and ground it, no spark. If I go and check it right now that it sat overnight itll spark, run the bike for a few minutes it dies and theres no spark.

One side of the coils need +12V from the ignition switch and the other side needs to be grounded via the ECU to fire.
Run the bike till it quits and then measure the red wire to the coils to make sure it has +12V on it. This power comes from the ignition switch, through the engine stop switch, and a fuse in the Junction Box.
If The coils have power then that means the ECU is not firing the coils. Since you swapped the ECU that leaves us with the sensor inputs into the ECU. The ECU will continue to run, albeit not very well with bad air/temp sensors but it can't run without the crank and camshaft sensors and because they are mounted on the engine I see them as being a very likely to be intermittent and only fail when the engine heats them up.
When the bike is cold I would unplug the both the crank and cam sensors and measure the resistance of each with an ohm meter.
Crank sensor resistance is 375 ~ 565 Ohms.
Cam Sensor resistance is 400 ~ 460 Ohms.
Plug the sensor back in and run the bike till quits and then quickly remeasure their resistance. Look for one that is way out of spec.
The vehicle down sensor or power and ground connections to the ECU could also shut the bike off but I don't see them as being as heat sensative as parts mounted to the engine.
Good Luck

The only thing I've seen that is intermittant / heat sensitive is the crank sensor.

No matter where in the world you are or how much money you have, the information you got from these 2 guys you could not buy or pay for better information.

So did you get the sensor? Did it fix it? Inquiring minds want to know.
Besides I can't finalize my Knowledge Base entry without a fixed/not fixed answer.
