Fuel injector problem

After the last batch of race fuel was run through my 12, the fuel injection system seems to be clogged. The datalogger shows a single data point high spike in A/F once every 3 or 4 seconds. I'll be running along at 13.5 and it will jump up to 20 A/F. Sometimes I can feel the buck, but most times I can't. I "think" the problem is real, meaning I don't think its a problem with the datalogger. I have run a can of FI cleaner through the bike with no improvement. Before I lower the motor to pull the throttle bodies out, does anyone have any good methods or ideas, or mabey a good cleaner they could recomend.

Unless you have big injectors, you don't have to lower the engine to pull the rack. I've done it seveal times and it's not that hard.

I have had more than one type of race gas screw up pumps and injectors. With the suspicion you have I'd just pull 'em and have them cleaned and flow tested.

The only cleaner I've used successfully is the Chevron product, but if they are messed up from the fuel, I doubt they'll heal.

I've only had pump failures related to race fuel. My injectors seem to be fairly tolerant.

I have a custom wet NOS system in the box, so unfortunatly I can't easily unbolt the trumpets in the airbox. Thats why I think it requires lowering (swinging) the engine on the bottom motor mount. Chevron huh?

Doug, any recomendation on the flow / balance. RC? I have never gotten around to doing it. Biggest hassle is the turnaround time. Racing season will get crushed.

Flow test/cleaning machines are not all that uncommon thses days. Check your yellow pages for hi-tech tune up shops. Check with Muzzys- Rob has a machine. Or yeah, send 'em to RC.

Tech, Yeah, I think the problems lie in the lubricity of the fuel. Less movement in the injectors.

Hmm. Ever since I added some race fuel at Maxton, my idle has been erattic. Every few seconds it will drop about 150 rpm. I also feel a slight miss up to 4k rpm.

Perhaps the injectors need checked...

After re-reading, I need to explain my post above.
I was indicating that I feel that because there is less movement in the injectors that they may be less susceptible to sticking than the fuel pump which is constantly in motion.
This scenario is exactly what caused me fits with my 12 at Bonneville in 2000. I didn't figure out that the engine was going lean from fuel pump problems rather than mapping until late in the game.
The stock pump in the 12 may be particularly vulnerable, due to its' design where a spinning plastic disk is in constant contact with the housing.

I think it's more than just a lack of lubricity in the fuel. I think it's also a chemical incompatibility. I've had MR9 completely destroy a pump within a week as it sat in a crash-damaged tank. I've also seen oxide-like deposits on the zinc-plated exterior of the fuel pump housing and brackets of an MR9-damaged fuel pump assembly.

With a bypass-type fuel pressure regulator, there's no reason not to use a 255lph high pressure pump. Even then, with the oxygenates present in pump fuel, I'd still pull the return line and eyeball the pressure/volume output of the fuel pump regularly. Stock ZX-12 fuel pump performance is marginal at best, and I'm sure that an oxygenated race fuel would find any weakness in an already-wounded delivery system.

Doug (or others),
What year fuel injectors are interchangable. I can get ahold of a set of 2002 injectors cheap to send out and blueprint, but I can't verify that they will work on a 2001 bike. I suspect that the same ~270 cc injector is used for ZX12s, Busas, and others, but not sure. I checked on RonAyers and Bike Bandit to see if the part numbers are the same between years, but I couldn't find the individual injectors listed. "stock" injectors are fine because I am making 196 HP on motor with aftermarket fuel pump.
Thanks for your help.

00-03 injectors should flow 310-320cc per minute
04-05 injectors should flow 380-390cc per minute

busas only flow 270 cc per minute
