Pissin in the wind?

From the kawasaki web site:

quote:
This new approach to achieving ultra low emissions is truly revolutionary. Other systems are reactive in nature and "clean-up" the exhaust by injecting it with ammonia or urea which are hazardous materials.

Isn't urea contained in piss??

Everything you wanted to know about PISS...

... but didn't want to know THAT BAD!

Urea was first discovered in human urine by H.M. Rouelle in 1773.

It was synthesized in 1828 by Friedrich Wohler and was the first organic compound to be synthesized from inorganic starting materials. It was found when Wohler attempted to synthesis ammonium cyanate, to continue a study of cyanates which he had been carrying out for several years. On treating silver cyanate with ammonium chloride solution he obtained a white crystalline material which proved identical to urea obtained from urine.

PRODUCTION

Urea is produced commercially by the dehydration of ammonium carbamate (NH2COONH4) at elevated temperature and pressure. Ammonium carbamate is obtained by direct reaction of ammonia with carbon dioxide. These reactions are normally carried out simultaneously in a high pressure reactor.

INDUSTRIAL USES

Urea has the ability to form "loose compounds" with many organic compounds. The organic compounds are held in channels formed by interpenetrating helices comprising of hydrogen bonded urea molecules. This behavior can be used to separate mixtures and has been used in the production of aviation fuel and lubricating oils.

What does all this mean? I don't have a fuckin' clue. I am kind puzzled about how urea is produced. If they inject ammonia with the carbon dioxide of a bike's exhaust, does that mean that it will be "ecologically" better, but smell like cat piss? Hell, I've already done that when I used MX silencer packing in my Muzzy.

*laughs* It is used in commercial turbine generators, like the kind used for power generation...Not used on bikes. See what kind of info you find at www.kawasaki.com?
