Kinda like gutting your best friend...
So I go back into my shop to clean up after tearing the motor out of the bike...I basically ripped the motor out, got it over to Mike V's place, busted it down and sent the salvageable stuff off last monday. So the bike has sat in the shop since then, with the stripped 12 on the handy lift... Going back in there felt really weird. I started cleaning up, and everywhere I wiped, I found more chunks of engine case, bearing material, and who knows what else. Finally, I got the bike cleaned up somewhat, and wheeled it over into the corner, then finished cleaning up the tools and put them away. It felt like I was a coroner, putting the autopsy instruments away. Here's the breaker bar...Makes me think of a sternum cracker. Here's a pair of side cutters...etc... Wiping the table off for the last time felt like cleaning up the table in the morque...Gah, so creepy! Damnit, it's just a bike...a thing! I guess I got it bad, huh?

Swft, I know exactly how you feel. Back in July 98 when my ZX-11 threw a rod I was the same way. Funny how these machines become so much a part of our lives.....Last year when I got the ZX-11 up and running again, it was like an old friend that I had not seen in quite some time.

go cart time
I KNOW how you feel. I still want to ride my 12, especially now that it is so flickable (sans motor, tranny, etc) Now if I can only talk somebody into pulling me around on it with a go cart........LOL

The key to this Swft is to not have my BlackBird experience. I had to gut and clean it 4 times before I couldn't take it anymore.

Exactley!
I must say swft,I know exactley how you feel.... at least you knew your bike was at home, when we left the mountain after the crash I felt like I was leaving a best friend behind after doing battle... not knowing if he'd live or die. But once we get em all spuced up I'm sure he'll forgive me...I hope. Weird isn't it.
