Led turn signals Moteck and other undertails flash rate?

they sell resistors for $25 when selling the undertails to slow down the LED flash rate. Thats fukn crazy.

Is it just a resistor? or relay too? If its just a resistor can you just get a 5cent resistor from radio shack and put it in line to slow down the flash rate? Anyone else thought about this? done this? can answer this?

explain the 12v flasher. how does it work? and would 1 work for both left and right sides? does a relay have to be connected for both sides?

No you use a single flasher just like stock. I think its a Tridon HD12 or HD10 flasher, I can't remember...

seems that the resistor values are anywhere from 6-8 ohms and 20-50watts minimum.

explain the 12v flasher.

The old style flashers have a bi metallic switch in them. When you pass current through the switch element it heats up. One side expands faster than the other and causes it to bend and snap open, thats the tick you hear. When it pops open the current flow is cut off and it cools down and snaps back closing the circuit and repeating the cycle. The more current that flows through the flasher the faster it heats up and the faster it flashes. This is why it flashes slower if one of your bulbs burn out.

The problem with LED bulbs is that they use so much less current than regular bulbs that the flasher element never warms up enough to snap open. The resistors are used to draw enough current through the flasher to make it flash.

The replacement Flashers are solid state electronic devices using a timer circuit and a transistor switch and/or built in relay and flash the same speed irregardless of how much current they switch.
