Tire Paches
Anyone ever have any negative experiance with a propper (mushroom type) tire patch? Got a self inflicted nail right through the rear of a virturally new tire. Trying to decide which way to go (pactch or repalace). $80 as apposed to $330.

If you mean the conventional tire patch (applied on the inside of the tire), you might be okay. But I sure wouldn't push the bike to its highest capabilities.

i'v never had any problems so far. even ran a quickie plug for a couple thousand kms on the rear with no probs.

...picked a glass shard at 1500 miles on new rear 010 during my vacation...patched it with a 'wick-type' radial repair...held air, no problem...rode to a friend's house an hour away and went to a motorcycle store and bought a new rear anyway...the thought of catastrophic tire failure at speed gives me the heebeegeebees...not like it'd be just as easy to control a blow-out like you can in a car, no?....yeeech!

I have never honestly heard of an actual bad experience with a patched tire. With that said I personally can't bring my self to use a patch on a high performance tire. Especially a motorcycle. I could see a patch for an emergency temporary fix in the boon docks.

Well, I can honestly say I live in the boon docks....so I stick a plug in mine and go. The rear never lasts long enough to matter anyway. I have only had one "blow out", and that was when I was "wasting" the tire on the concrete pad at work. After the belts started slinging out and ALL the rubber was long gone from the center, the plug finally shot into space and deflated my tire for good!! Hehe...I wonder why the cops drove by about five minutes later real slow??
