Pilot HPX vs. Sportec M-1?
Are currently driving on the HPX´s and are very satisfied..the grip is the best i ever tried, have´d used Pirelli Dragon,Dunlop 207,and the BT010.
The only problems is that they dont last very long..in my case, appox 400km on a rear,i don´t stunt very much..only a few wheelies and races on the strip..i prefer to drive up my tires on the road with a mixture of touring, highspeed traveling and sometimes with my knee dragging along the tarmac.
Have been reading that a couple of you guys are currently driving the M-1´s..is the milage longer or are they same as the Pilots?
How is the grip?
Are they classified for the ZX 12 like the HPX´S? or are they only ZR classified?
When i was talking to a representive from Metzeler he said that the M-1 was a street tire for track use and the pilots where race tires for street use..the difference seems to be that the Pilots seems to have a bit bad grip in rain..
I´ve experienced that the Pilots are a bit slippery in rain..but far better than the Dragons and 207´s..
Are in the conflict rigth now due to my Pilots are finished..should i try the M-1 or should i continue with the HPX??

damn, i am very dissapointed to hear that. after all the glowing reports about the M1s i was really hoping they would wear well. if this is a consistent finding, it'll be off to the 010s for me.

BFLY, what were you getting outta the 207's? 3500 for me for the rear, but that's in "sport touring" mode LOL. M-1's are already on order, just curious.

Hmmm..2700 miles is no good
Have you been wheeling alot or used it on the strip?
I had hoped for more out of the M-1´s...
I drive appox. 12500 miles/year so my tire account isn´t very happy...i guess that is a price i have too pay for the grip..
Here in Sweden a Pilot HPX 190/50 cost about 300$ so you see why i´m looking for a tire that have a better milage on them..

Something is amiss here. I am running a set of rennsports on my 12, almost 3000 miles & rear is about half worn. Even though 2500 of those is very cool weather miles, the M1's should last ALOT longer than the Renns, at least that's what the Metzler tire rep said at the bike show.

I belive that the Rennsports have the same milage as the Pilots??
They only tyre that i have used which had some milage on it was the Pirelli Dragon...did get 1150 miles on it but the grip sucked...
No question about it,the pilots rules..but the milage sucks..therefore i had hoped for the M-1´s...
Did talk to a Michelin salesman last week about the brand new Pilot Road..they are the next generation of Macadam MX100..i used the Mx100 on my Blackbird prior to my ZX12 and was more than pleased with the grip and the milage.
But he said that for highspeed machines as the 12 and the Busa the only alternative is the HPX´s due to the different cord structure in the tires.
It also had to do with highspeed classifications on the tires..

I have M-1's on my bike
I like them they are a little better than 010's. I have about 1100 miles on them and the rear is not long for this world. It's my 10th rear tire in just over 15,000 miles.

Harry, Do you do a big smoky burnout every time you take off? How can you go through tires so fast? Never heard of such terrible tire life, unless you are purposely trying to be hard on them. Not flaming, just wondering what's happening.

I have about 800 miles on my Rennsport rear and it looks like 1200 to 1500 miles will be about it. I accelerate like hell all the time and the middle of the tire looks like it. I wheelie alot too. I was getting 2500 out of my 207s.

I didn't do a single burnout on the m-1's and the reason I believe I go through rear tires so fast is because I run the hell out of my bike.I redline it a lot as I love the acceleration. When you do that the rear tire is usually spinning some, even though I am very heavy. I haven't done as many wheelies since I have a new engine.
The pictures I posted at one time of a real smoky burnout were taken just before I changed my rear tire.

Shoot I wish I got your guys mileage! I get ~900 miles to a D207ZR rear (both 190 or 200 series); & the new "RR" I just got looks like it will go even less (500 miles & almost gone-maybe a couple more rides.)
FYI, I ride exclusively twisties at "The Pace" riding; & change the tire just at or just past the wearbars. Always have plenty in the center left; just wear out the sidewalls fast. Believe it or not, I don't ride that hard compared to some guys I ride with. I think it's just my weight (265 naked) & the abrasive-ass "Tar & Chip" roads out here in No. CA...
Wish I could find a tire with the predictability of the Dunflop, with ANY higher mileage capability...

Just check out my friend on his Gixx 1000R and you will understand why his tires don´t last a 1000 miles
But sure it´s a heck of a fun

M1's
I'm very happy with the M1's. I've got over 1000 miles on them and they still look great. As for grip, it's much better than the D207's that were on there. I also heard that the pilots were a track tire for the street and keeping them hot may be an issue as well as being slippery in the rain. I haven't really ridden in the rain yet so I can't say about the M1's. I expect to get at least 5000 miles out of them with no problem. I put a set on my wifes ZX9R and I know she'll get about 10,000 miles out of them easily. My riding style is about 70% highway(highspeed) & 30% twisties. Heck, the D207's lasted 6800 miles for me.

No more Dunlop evernever for me..
Went too my local tireman today too see what he had in store for me..he had a pair of HPX´s "with special price only for you"...
I made up my mind too wait with the M-1´s until more people has made their comments about them..
So until next time my Panzer is shoed with the HPX´s...
Afterburned too my garage to put the wheels on again!!!
After a couple of miles the knee was dragging the tarmac so now i´m back in the loop again!!
