Here is my detailed race report, from the Test and Tune at MIR on 5/6:
Anyone who follows the trash talk knows that somehow Todd goaded me into calling him out. In truth, I didn't want to....I knew there was no way he could beat me without resorting to treachery of some sort. While I had been contemplating extending my swingarm in order to improve my 60 ft. times, I restrained myself, out of concern for his fragile ego.
So, fast forward to race day. I'm standing in Todd and Deb's shop and Todd is backing his Gixxer off the bike lift. I notice there is a rag hanging from the side of the bike, so I point it out to Todd. He says, "Oh, this?", and removes the rag to display a freshly installed air shifter! Oh, and btw, no more timing retard in the lower gears either.
So, now I'm thinking...shit! I have been loading up on beer and ice cream for the last three weeks just to even the odds...and now this! Hell, Friday night I had 36 beers and 3 bags of pork rinds...just in hopes of slowing my reflexes enough to match him on Sunday....
Now I'm thinking I might have to actually take the bike to redline to beat him.
Fast forward to the track:
We register and pass a grueling tech inspection.
Todd and I line up for the 1st run. I decide to reluctantly launch above the planned 1500 rpm, just in case he is able to find the shifter button. Well, I guess he had trouble because I smoked the hell out of him. 10.83 vs. my 10.68. I am back to the low 1.8 60 ft's. I am starting to think of what will happen when I really twist the grip on him!
So we go back to the pits and park our bikes. I run in the bathroom to take a leak...
When I come out of the bathroom, I look over at my bike. Three red-eyed dwarves have their hands all over the bike and the ECU harness. I can't understand what the dwarves are saying...but they sound like the Jawa's from Star Wars. Then I notice they are wearing T-Shirts with a "Twin Jugs" logo on them....coincidentally the same ones that I saw in Todd's shop earlier that day! I run towards them and they yell out "Wootini !!!", and scurry off towards the timing tower...
Everyone else is pretending they can't see the dwarves.
After that, the bike started to run funny. It wouldn't pull past 8k rpm. I became stuck in the 10.7's. Every time we ran, Todd kept getting faster and faster. Oddly enough, I saw those same three dwarves up in the windows of the timing tower! Could foul play be afoot? You tell me!
So, he "won" the bet. I guess he finally got the shifter working, as he put up a couple of runs in the 10.2's and a 1.80 60 ft..
Between the shifter and the dwarves in the tower, he saw some major improvements in ET and MPH.
At the end of the day I saw the problem...the dwarves had unplugged the entire ECU. I plugged it back in and ran a 10.53@139.
The significant others were experiencing some launching issues (whenever I see an 800 lb. bike like a 'Bugly get sideways under a 120 lb. woman, I get nervous....nice save, Debbie!)....and mystery woes (everyone knows the Superhawk is best dragbike out there...I was expecting mid 10's out of Racheal on that beast!).
Dave's fuel pump failed, so he didn't get to run. I had been privately coaching him, and we were expecting him to break into the 11's....but not even I can run 11's without a fuel pump!
Oh, and Shiphteey ran a 9.4x@155 mph. Good ET, but why was his mph so low? Oh, and I almost forgot...before our last run, Todd paid Shiphteey so that he would feign needing a push-start. After pushing the bike for almost a mile (in full gear), the bike just magically started. Then I had to run back to staging (I timed myself...a 4:15 mile...not bad, considering the gear I was wearing) and race the bike.
Hopefully I will have some pictures to post soon....
Shane
PS. Good job everyone! It was a blast!

Hey man. I did run the Superhawk down the 1/4 on Sunday. I wanted to see what kind of mph it would run (my gf was not getting good mph from it). "Launched" at 3k rpm, sitting straight up (2.26 60 ft...lol). Ran a 12.2 at 115. I'd say that an 11.7 at 118 is easily within my reach...even at 250 lbs. suited.
What could be better than a tall, torquey bike with little top-end hp? Perfect for dragracing!!

Here are some interesting pics. Me tucked in on the 12R vs. the 'Busa. While both tucks can obviously be improved, it is easy to see how much better the 'Busa fits my body shape, at speed. Fortunately, nobody (I hope) was behind me to suffer the plumber's crack :

What a funny ass post Shane(cool pics too by the way)... and a killer day at the strip(still can't get the feeling of that Jet engined Semi doing 210mph in the qusarter out of my chest).
After all the banter and reading all the hype of the how a 12 was going to make me feel like a little girl... I thought I needed an edge to equal the horspower advantage over my 1000(not realizing just how much help the reduced weight of my setup would eventually result in).
I didn't see the mention of you trying to get your bike as light as possible as shown in the "showbike" picture below by the way.

Well, after that first run and loosing bad enough to see your bike all the way down the track... I really thought I'd be pulling some cash out of my pocket and actually prepped for it(literally). My second run made me feel better as I just pulled by you putting me back in the game. Then by the tijme I figured out how to use that "wheelie down" button.. I suprised myself, and with that last 10.2 run I don't think I had the front end barely skip off the ground a couple times at most. The funny thing is, the tips from you and Ali are a big part of it(so you can go smack yourself around little more for that one - lol).
Here's an on board video, and oh by the way... that's you that can't be seen ahead of me in the right lane! I can't show the run where you beat me as everyone might see the dwarves practicing their bumper skiing from your tail section for the rest of the runs. ;-)
Here's to hoping the pic and vid above show up.

shane,
pull the seat off the 12 and see how tr tuck improves....
if you think its better, just get a used seat, take the covering off, yank the foam, then restaple the covering.
It was a BIG improvement for me (6'3", 230 suited)

I have a catalyst composites step seat coming next Tuesday. We'll see how that one does....

Yep. Except he's getting the carbon fiber instead of fiberglass. Apparently his weight + fiberglass = stress cracks all around the perimiter of each mounting holes, the fat F&^%!

Yeah, I suppose if you aren't going to buy a busa you can transform your 12 into one piece by piece starting form the front-
Looks good man! Ya might consider gluing or riveting a piece of leather(or just slap down a piece of tool drawer liner) on that pan to make sure your sliding back is your choice.

Although you just got called a chicken BY A GIRL dude!!! Ouch, I know how it feels though my friend(head hanging)!
Hmmm(not sure I want to go for it or not), but what about against me on her no PC, stock muffler, reflector wearing, no strap, mudflap running, OEM tire Busa?

Damn....that would be a good run. Shane should have the HP by a few and you'd have the weight by a few....TOSS UP! And you both run 1.8s right? Too close to call, I'm not putting any money on it....but if you guys do put $ on it sounds like a fair race to me.
Stock geared busa will be pretty good with stock gearing (3rd) on the limiter, maybe a damn upshift at the end whereas Shane, you already know 17/45 got me 155 at the traps. 17/47 or 17/48 sounds perfect for you provided you don't wheelie and come out a little harder!
Meanwhile...in the 9 second world....

No way I'm betting $100 though, (too close to Maxton$)...maybe lunch. LOL

I'll tell you what....
I'll take that bet...my 12R vs. Deb's Busa...best out of 3...
As long as I don't stare at her 'Busa and get turned to stone, I should be ok...
Oh, and as long as Todd doesn't throw on 100 mods like last time...I accept the
air-shifter..but beyond that...give a guy a break!
Loser pays for dinner for 4 at Smokey Bones (Racheal included)?

Deb isn't gonna go for me running it full out without ever having been down ANY track on it, so is a run or two on it before hand fair enough? I'll leave it as is(nothing but the shifter added to the stock bike) .
I am going to concentrate on my 1000 though as the Busa is still mainly a commuter bike to get her to work and back(and keep her seat time up for LSR). I certainly can't pass up a free meal at Smokey Bones though! BTW, I've seen you eat(so if I loose this could cost me more then the entry fee! - lol), and I'd buy Racheal a meal anytime for the hell of it. ;-)
Man, this EK drz2 chain is like butter between the links compared to a DID oring chain.

Yeah, I've got a 140 link EK sitting here as well...slick as snot. The one good thing that came with my +6 Bandit swingarm...
I will give the swingarm away free to anyone who will video it being dragged behind their car bumper. Piece of sheet.
Take as many runs as you need to get comfortable on the 'Bugly....I could stand a few to get back into the swing of things...

If I can have it I'll video it behind a Panhead.... what better fate could befit it?
Hmmm, the steak or the ribs.... guess all I care about is that I get the cornbread with it.
Should I call my order in now?

I am hoping for some 10.4's.....the Busa should be right in that range, I would think...
Looking forward to some close racing...

As much as I wonder about your sanity on occassions like this, I have to admire your standards of not selling it to someone else. 99% of the riding public would have that thing on Ebay in a matter of minutes.
And I'd be happy to help you rework it into an acceptable condition if you still want to run it(we can go over that while we're hooking to the back of my Panhead though).
