Can I lose the passenger seat for more storage??

On the 12, can you purchase anything from anywhere that will lose the passenger seat and instead, allow you to have a bigger compartment for storage there? I dont see why there cant be an aftermarket piece that could replace what is already on the bike that would just fit in, have no seat in it, and provide the larger capacity for storage.

Any suggestions?????

I have a Givi Speedpack (http://www.givi.it/indexe.htm - look under Accessories & Various) that worked awesome for a 1 week trip I did last summer from Chicago to Atlanta. They make it in colors matching the 12 too, I can guarantee that the silver matches perfectly. There's a domestic firm bringing these in too now, they make one with a carbon fiber look shell instead of painted, pretty cool but the name of their website escapes me.

Yank the tub

I took the storage tub out and it give me more room. Nothing gets wet or dirty since there's still protection from the OEM fender. Now if you have an aftermarket tail... beats me.

That Givi site is cool...but the storage is a backpack that straps on...doesnt look like it snaps/locks into the chassis. No prices either. Do you know if that blue matches the 2002 blue 12's?

Is the storage tub just the plastic tray that holds the tool kit and stuff? What about all those electrical wires underneath...shouldnt I worry about those? My bike is not aftermarket...just bought it...a 02 blue 12.

Yeah, that is it. Take that sucker out!! I wouldn't worry about the wires unless you are hauling a bunch of knives or hacksaw blades and stuff. If you want to, you can also relocate the computer to one of the sides so nothing will be sitting on it.

What you want is an aerodynamic shell that uses the factory lock but is hollow, a shell, to increase the height of the compartment, correct?

Well, one option would be to buy a race tail section from OPP, out of Vancouver

oppracing.com

They can sell you a fiberglass one piece tail section that bolts in place of the stock section. Course, you would have to cut some kind of access into it...

Maybe it is just me, but you would think that someone has made a piece that just replaces what comes stock there and would offer a shell piece without a seat in it that locks right into place. Maybe a bubble that looks good, but even just the piece without a seat that locked right into would be awesome.

I'm really in shock that its so hard to find such a thing. Maybe its just me though.

I'm thinking about a one off project. Too many projects right now and not enough time. Mostly I'm interested in a higher tail section for better aerodynamics.

Beans, I'm doing a prototype this weekend...finished the R&D tonight. It will also be hinged at the front so when you turn the key,the shell pops up. Also making a bracket that is hinged for the stock seat!

Sorry to hijack your topic, but have you seen the storage that Two Brothers Racing came up with for the 2002 VFR? I was considering a Viffer before I decided on the 12, and I was looking at aftermarket exhaust systems for it and stumbled onto this:

quote:
Two Brothers Racing proudly introduces "The Stash" (patent pending) exhaust system available for the VFR800FI. By routing the exhaust flow through the right canister, both torque and horsepower is improved over twin canister designs. And, in order to preserve the original look of Honda's new masterpiece VFR800FI, we developed a lockable storage canister for the left side. This canister looks just like its right side brother but adds much needed weather proof storage space to the bike. It easily holds rain gear, a cell phone, wallet, digital camera and more in the furnished zip-top Cordura liner bag. The stock canisters weigh 19.5 lbs. vs. 9 lbs. for The Stash exhaust system.

LMAO, maybe we could petition them to build a system for the 12? I'd love to have a fake pipe to store a buncha crap in.
Check it out at http://www.twobrothersracing.com.

Hey Hondo...did you ever make one. You mentioned you were going to. I sure would like one of these still. I'm sure I'm not the only one as well.

I saw Dino's seat hinge, it is a really nice piece. He was still in the design stage for the shell portion of the project. I am sure it will be every bit as nice as the hinge kit. The hinge kit is top quality, works perfect, cowl fit is BETTER than oem. The cowl lined up on all axis and planes, something no stock cowl does that I have seen. He did not have a price set yet for the hinge kit, but in my opinion it is worth every cent of $150. You could make one, but for the price why spend 2 days of prototyping and then still have to build it! I told Dino I am first in line for one!

I thought the 12 already had an ash tray. That cup holder idea sounds superb though. That way I can hit up those fast food places more. McDonalds for Ninjas Drive Through...I can see it now.
