Swingarm Spools
What are swingarm spools? They appear to me to be just like frame protectors, but for the rear of the bike instead of the front. If I'm wrong, can someone please steer me in the right direction.
Where is a good place to get frame sliders for the front and rear of the 12? Thanks.

The swing arm spools are used in conjunction with a rear bike stand. A real must if you work on your own bike. The spools provide a stong consistant point for the rear stand to hook and pick the bike up. The secondary advantage of the spools are that they do act in part as a wear point if you will in the event the bike goes down and slides on the pavement.
On race bikes we usually count on the bar ends, frame protectors, solid non pivoting foot pegs and the spools to provide protection during a crash. Unfortunately the exhaust usually gets involved also!
Hopefully this answers your question.

www.protekk.com I have a set of these. The lockharts I had before didn't really stick out very far and were kind of bitch to get the stand locked into.

Muzzy's also sells the big spools. Makes it nice when you are trying to hold up a race bike and put the stand on by yourself!

Lockhart Phillips sell a non folding peg I believe. I have Gilles Rearsets they replace the entire footpeg assembly, give adjustment forwards, backwards, up and down. They also cost about $450. Sato makes a really nice set as well.

Pit Bull also sells spools. They are as nice as you'd expect them to be. I had LP, but replaced them with Pit Bull.

Pit bull is a really cool group of guys. I have found them easy to work with and if you need something special they can make it. I.e. special spacers etc.

I started out with the Pit Bull spools. Very nice set, well made, and they include the spacer to get the spool away from the swingarm. However, if you are not careful, you'll still end up scarfing the swingarm with the stand. The muzzy spools sit out so far from the swingarm that there's a lot less chance of it.

I'm not having any luck with those non-folding footpegs from LP. Do you have a part number for those by chance? Is it possible just to get the footpeg part, or am I going to have to replace the entire assembly?
Also, I inquired about these from my dealer, who told me that these are illegal. He said the footpegs "legally" have to fold. He said you cant order them anymore. Ummm ok....so is there any truth to this. This was a dealer in Spokane, WA.

I'm not seeing those Muzzy swingarm spools anywhere on Muzzys's website. Do you have a part number for those?
How do the Muzzys compare with the ones from LP? Yes, your opinion matters. I'm going to order some next week for sure, just wanted to hear what you think. Thanks.

The LP spools are probably the nicest thing I've seen from them. (not a compliment) They do work, I had them for a while and they were ok. If you get colors, they scratch.
I haven't seen the Muzzy ones, but I expect they are good quality. The Pit Bull ones are good, and the last time I looked the color was holding strong.

FWIW - I like all the other Muzzy stuff but I prefer the Pit Bull stands and spools. I have both right now.

I see the Muzzy ones now...thanks. However, it only lists for a 2000 ZX-12R. I'm assuming these will work on my 02 model? Just making sure before I order. Thanks.

bean, check out my thread on those LP pegs.
http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?TID=3265&FID=1
I have just installed (with a little extra work) some of their adjustable Super Pole pegs. Very trick and cheap! They don't have them for the 12R, so you'd have to get the ones for a 7R and do some drilling in the 12R brackets. Was well worth it (around $50). I will post some pics later.

I have the Bear spools. Soon as I buy a stand to use them with, I'll let you know how good they are. Look cool, though!! And being black, they'll match the new black swingarm.
