2K ZX12R and Timing

I know the 2K ZX12R responds well to advancing the timing, just wondering if anyone has a PCiiir map w/timing or knows how much advance and where works best. What advance are guys using w/the manual advancers?

Thanks,

From what I hear most manual guys run an advance of 3-5. I think they were looking to have a section soon with mods and maps which would be very interesting.

I still have some maps that were for the Akrapovic, Muzzy and Hindle that had Timing charts. What pipe do you have?

The Akro I had was a 4-1 but send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send you some maps so at least you can see how it was done!

PM has been sent. Sharing maps is a good example of why A map section on this board would be very helpful to all of us...

Mr. Hills maps should be very impressive as his stock 12 sure put out some HP! It would probably cost us normal folk about $1K on the Dyno to make one of them!

It would be even more interesting to see mods and HP/TQ at 500 - 1000 RPM intervals, sounds like a good project for a master at spreedsheets (Karl)!

depends really on how you are going to run your bike

max timing can go as far as it will not
detonate or preignite or you dont get ping & knock

barring any or All of those
a properly running engine can sustain a healthy amount of ignition advance

years ago
yoshimura & muzzy used to sell a 5deg advance
dont remeber anyone indicating they had a negative
experience or result

some even modified the plate to gain a few more degrees
that way it was + or minus

it also depends on temp & load
whether its drag or roadrace
or just trolling for booty on the blvd

so you really have to say........
big advance in a geared bike
really makes it bang the tach quicker
also makes it harder to launch
but gives a great top end

you cant have it all
some you may be interested in
some may never enter the picture

you decide

good luck
