Redelk/Anyone ?? Tire Help..
Redelk/Anyone with some good feedback...
Just got back from my dealer and the mechanic decided not install my tires as I wanted.
I had them order pilot sports.
120/65 and 180/55
The mechanic decides the 180's are unsafe for the rear rim and orders 200.. This also made me have to wait longer as they had to order the 200 and never even called me about it. It was raining for 2 days so I just was patient and fiannly called to see if my bike was done.
I can understand him not wanting to install an unsafe tire but I researched this for a ling time and ordered what I thought would work and what I wanted. I am no mechanic but I know more about my 12 than they do. Hell I read everything about it and I am always taking it apart.
I know a lot of people are running these tires and these sizes on their 12's.
They also notified me that my CF huggar was very close to the back tire... Well.. I guesss maybe it would be as it's a different brand that is probably a bit different than the stock dunlop in shape and not what I wanted.
So..
I show up today and wasn't too happy. I was pleasont but it seems every time I try to give them my business they bone it up.
The owner's got involved as they overheard.. He is pretty cool and said that if I knew people using that tire combo on the 12 rims that he would have them put it on anyway and I could pick it up in the morning.
He said he would take care of it and I thanked him.
BTW
I also talked to the main parts manger Don when I ordered the tires and set up the service. He matched competition accessories prices plus 10 bucks per tire (would be shipping costs) ... and he quoted me 24.99 to install and balance them which I think was a great deal.
As usual this was never written down and no one knew what prices he charged me.. BTW 129.95 and 168.95 is what he charged me per tire.
It's so typical... I had a friend drive me all the way out there to pick up the bike and now I have to go back again tommoro. I also fear they will come up with more reasons not to put the 180 on the bike.
I searched for the Redelk articles on tires as you had many good ones. Didn't find the majority of them.
Do you or anyone else have any good feedback on this ?
I may print some of this info out and take it there tommoro to back up my tire decision.
As I finish this up I remember that RedElk is a the gap.. so anyone that can help.. it is appretiated.
And finally.. I want to give local places my business and everyone messes up. If they make this right I will order more things from them this sumnmer and so will my friends.. many of which have bought bikes from them this year. Hell.. I got about 2000 in parts I plan on adding to my 12 this summer. If they match prices or come close they got my business.
Thanks

I think that you SHOULD print this out and take it to them so that they can see how many people think they're dumb asses. You said it best dude, YOU know more about your 12 than they do so just tell them to mount the fuckin' tires and get on with it.

Try this
Because of my painfully slow internet connection here at the hotel (VERY Old laptop), you've been spared a the typical Red Elk post. On the top of this page there is a "search (active threads)". Click on it and then enter in the search for box, 180/55 and then "search". I think you will find just about everything you'll need in those threads.
Their concern might be putting a 180/55 on a 6" rim. Yes, the "preferred" rim size is 5.5", but all the major tire manufacturers state that a 6" rim IS ACCEPTABLE. An easy example would be at the Dunlop website. Go to the fitment chart and it will show that a 6" rim is acceptable for a 180/55.
A little under 1/4 of the 12R riders I know are running a 180/55. Another 1/3+ are running a 190/50. I'm currently running 180/55 and 120/70 Rennsports (for the Gap... and I'm STILL the slowest). I've run NOTHING but a 180/55 for over a year now. That's about EIGHT PLUS REAR TIRES!
One thing is VERY IMPORTANT to remember... changing to a 120/65 will REQUIRE you to completely readjust your front suspension settings.
GOTTA GO, EVERYBODY HERE THINKS IT A "PANTIES RAID" IN THE ELK'S ROOM!
