Poll Question: IMPORTANT POLL>> KEEP SITE BLOCKED TO LURKERS STILL?? << OKay... here's an important question for everyone here... This site is moderated and runs quite smoothly IMHO... that is due in part to the fact that we currently have a "no lurkers" policy.. that means to read any posts you have to sign up for an account....
Since the world seems to have calmed down a little....
should we keep the policy as it stands... (ie: ya'll like yer 'private' little community) or do we open the doors so people can see just what we are talking about...
opinions please...
Poll Results: 25 votes (47%) Keep is blocked to lurkers (the way it is now)

Keep It Closed Just as I sit in my room discuss this with Bri (BFLY) he feels where is the "Freedom" in closing board to non-members and freedom is what has kept this place we call home the best place to live.
I feel differently, this is a forum of members and it is not like we charge or require a credit report. The fact is we keep the "Trash Out" We all for the most part understand the difference between right and wrong and when you add the ability to hide behind a keyboard you should have someone to answer too.
I am not even thinking about the things that supposedly went on with LABUSA.
We all come here for facts and information about what joins us as members and riders, to join is simple and painless but requires some level of commitment and an e-mail address as simple as it is means you not just a JACKASS.

I don't see that is very hard to just sign up, If someone want's to check it out hopefully they will be prepared to be a positive contributor to this site and help it to grow better and better.....No sign up allows any YAHOO to just mess around....No good.A small percentage of the folks prob. ruin it for the good peopl out there. It's not like you ask for a credit card and bank account number or something. There......

Most people like to read a little before they sign up for something!!! but on the flip side...maybe that is what is keeping the trash talkers out of here!!!!
But!!! I really don't care either way!!! Majority rules!!

???? Either way, you can't post unless signed up, right? I'm with Angi on this. Let 'em look and hopefully we will attract more good input. Or, to be less selfish, maybe we can help more newbies. As long as they have to sign up to post, I say open it up.

Lets do the liberal democrat thing and lower the standards. Let everyone have access, and pretty soon someone will be offended etc. etc. etc.
If a non technology idiot like myself can sign up so can they!!

Well, let me chime in on this, since I come from the unique perspective of having only recently signed up here. :P
This is my first post to this site, or any ZX-12 site for that matter, since I got my new bike last Sunday. I have a paid subscription at MO.com, and read most of the motorcycle sites routinely. I also have a Dakota R/T and subscribe to many of the Dak related sites out there, and I am also a long standing member of corral.net and many other 'Stang related websites.
Anyway, enough of my online resume'. I personally didn't (and don't) mind taking the extra 2-3 minutes that it requires to sign up for a site. To me, these sites are like a little online community, and as with any community (such as motorcycle riding) I don't think it hurts anyone to take a slightly defensive stance and require a buffer between the normal netizens and ourselves. There's enough spam, flaming and griefing going on without letting just anyone come to this (well-run) site and "hit-and-run" for the sole purpose of pissing people off.
Especially after 9/11, I'd say erring on the side of caution is a good thing. If nothing else, you can be sure that even the lurkers will have to be a bit more dedicated.

this is very interesting.... well... what I have done is unblock the "bikeland" forum which is moderated by PrincessKiwi and SassyVanilla and left the rest the way they are... those two enjoy mudslinging etc... as for the rest of the site we'll leave it blocked..
hopefully this will work for everyone, and maybe that side of the board may see some more traffic...

I'm torn on this I voted to open it up, with one cavet. Veiwing is one thing, but posting must require registration. On the other hand, I could just as easily agree with the idea of "If it ain't borke, don't fix it".
