Just how far do you think you can lean your ZX-12 in a turn?

I was doing some more work on the ECU project when I found that the Vehicle Down Sensor, which shuts down the fuel/ignition when the bike tips over, is actually an analog input to the ECU, not just an on and off switch. The tilted to far threshold is actually a MAP variable in the ECU.

I decided to check the manual for some more info when I ran across this interesting tid bit.

quote:

...with sensor tilted: (40~50 degrees, for the US and Canada 60~70 degress)

WTF is up with that? Europeans are 'only' allowed to tilt there bikes 40 degrees but we here in North America are allowed 60?

Is this Big Brother, the one who doesn't want them to go over 300kMh, not wanting them to lean over to far?

Of course this begs the question. Can you actually lean a zx-12 over farther than 40 degrees?

And if you can would you really want your engine to suddenly turn off while your doing it :O

You know it suddendly occurred to me that at speed the cornering forces would pull sensor weight in alignment with the normal bike up axis. So the bike would either have to be stationary or sliding on its side (which as we all know is always a straight line) for the angle sensor to trip.

Never mind.....

I'm still curious why its 40 for some and 60 for others.

I've ridden my 12 with footpegs scraping, so I guess we've got enough lean angle in Europe

I'd think that it has something to do with the leagal system in US being very expensive if something happens so in US the system "tuned" so that it can't do any harm but won't work as effectively either... Don't really know but have been wondering the same thing for years when I read the same thing from the manual...

How many degrees do these pics look like?

I've never had any issues with my bike cutting out. My bike is set up VERY high, I can only touch with the tip of my toes. I also have a spacer on the rear shock to raise the rear height.

Looking at that last pic, I'd say a solid 45* Harry. You've got 'er leaned over pretty good. Course, not as far as you had it leaned over that day on the foothills. Stupid bastard.....

I'll never forget that feeling of us hitting that left hander just flying, drafting like Nextel Cup Cars at Talladega. Thinking man HARRY IS ROLLIN'.....OH WTF???? HARRY IS SLIDIN"!!!! SHEEEIT I"M SLIDIN" TOO!!!!!!!! We just about ran out of road on that one son. WHEW!!! We laughed our asses off down by the lake, too bad the Mule Mauler wasn't with us, he'd have been in the same boat I'm sure.

I've hit the winglets on the track. Bike has never even hiccupped. 47,000 miles and about 35 tires! (Maybe more!)
