The Scott's install is not for the faint-hearted.....it requires drilling holes in the steering head, and removing shavings from inside the frame.

Same for me. One thing that helps about the shavings is the instructions provided by Scotts. They suggest dipping the provided drill bit in grease. I put the bit in bearing grease and it seemed to catch ALL the shavings. Couldn't find any in the air box.

I also put grease on the drill bit; some minor shavings still fell through. I had already smeared some grease under the area, inside the frame. So, whatever fell through was sitting in the grease.

Scotts/Ohlins.

Good shit.

Have some Ben-Gay on hand afterwards. It's a pain in the ass to install.

I have a Scotts but the 12 really don't need one. It's solid as a rock at any speed. My 10 R was also calm before the damper. A lot of guys hide problems with their maintenance with a damper..

I wouldn't even consider running at Maxton without a damper. Fortunately, they won't let you.....lol

I realize that BUT I still personally never had my 12 do anything stupid.. I only added the one I have because I purchased a second 12 and it was on there so I removed it and added it to my personal 12. I still don't feel the 12 needs one.. BUT my bikes are maintained like the space shuttle.. and I'm constantly checking things like steering head bearings and Swingarm pivot bolts for proper torque.. I've seen first hand what happens when a guy gets lazy and don't check this shit..

Ask Bergie if he thinks a 12 needs one...
I would not race my bike without it now...

many times I have come down from launching the bike and not even knowing the wheel was slightly at an angle, it can go bad real quick....
Bergie I would say is a very above avg rider/racer and he came down out of a slight wheelie and before he knew what happend the bars slammed back and forth a couple of times and broke his wrist and he came off of the bike, bad news... he can add to it I am sure...

I got into a slapper one time before the dampener and it was a small one on the street, freaked me out a little for a second. I just throttled out of it and then locked up the brakes to stop before blowing a sign. but if I would have had the dampener I dont feel it would have even been a worry...

I've said this before, but- You don't really need it until you need it and then, you REALLY need it.
