Looking to buy a new pair of boots b4 the Gap tri pnext week. Went to 2 dealerships in town and they both had CRAP for inventory. Can someone please recommend a good pair of boots for around $250 and maybe a link or two where to veiw them and purchase with hopes of receiving them before next Wednesday? Also, has anyone puchased boots via mail order and if so do the sizes match pretty close to say your tennis shoe size? Thanks guys...

I have a pair of Corbin (Tall) boots that are 12 years old and they still look great. They are plain black leather but they have all the protective features.

OK I ordered these: Pretty sweet.

2002 Alpinestars SMX Boots (US size conversion)
Features:
Closure system: unique semi-rear zippered opening.
Front shin plate: smaller and lighter, 3 color molded plastic.
Sole: Alpinestars' exclusive compound includes 2 color design.
Ankle support: all new external ankle support system with memory shock absorbing heel cup with a 270 degree injected design.
Toe guard: wrapping leather toe guard with an all new flexible and replaceable toe slider and an all new full coverage shifter pad which extends to the end of the boot.
Shank: contoured steel.
Upper: Lorica® and leather.
Lining: ventilated leather with Cambrelle on all high wear areas.
Foot bed: a removable injection molded base with shock absorbing materials.
Calf support: a wrapping injection molded section connects the ankle to the calf anatomically.
Rear reflective panel on heel
Paul's comments: The SMX boot is a great looking boot at a great price for all kinds of riding. They are made for use on the track or as a sport boot for the street. The vivid colors combined with the modern shapes of the black plastic armor pieces are very sharp. The fit and finish of the boots is top notch. They look so good, you'll hate to wear them and get them all scuffed up! The information listed above is taken from the Alpinestars website. Most of it makes sense to me, but I think the main features to consider are: Integral heel, shin and ankle protection, removable toe sliders, solid shank, toe guards (for the shifter) and the fact that the boots are lined in a very high quality perforated leather material. Using the size conversion chart has proven to be accurate with myself and a couple of our models. The boots run "normal" in width--D or maybe even an E width. If you are between sizes in the chart and don't have a wide foot, then I'd go down. If you have a wider foot, then go up. The zipper on the side of the boot comes about 2/3 of the way up the shaft of the boots and closes with Velcro from there which allows some adjustment in calf size. Use this size conversion chart from Alpinestars
Price: Retail $229.95, Now $199
$199 was a good deal I thought. Anyone have these boots?

boots
Otis...www.newenough.com...Sidi Vert II $230...Alpinestars SMX $199...others on hand, large selection...shipping is $10 UPS ground...if they ship out tomorrow, you'll have them on your feet by Monday or Tuesday...great people, talk to Holly @ 888-530-7531, tell 'em Mariano recommended you to them...they have fantastic customer service!
I have problem feet(WIDE), but the Sidi Air Carbon in 48 that I bought from them fits well and breaks in easy...the regular SMX is also a great fit, but the SMX Plus is a bit stiff (but with TONS of protection)...good luck!!!
ooops!...I just read that you already ordered a pair ...DOH!

beware!
be sure to CALL and CONFIRM that the place you decide to order from has them in stock.
I ordered my sidi vert 2's online and ran into the old "they are on backorder" going on two months now.
it sucks trying to get size 13 or larger boots.
good luck!

Boots
Get the 2002 Oxtar TCS boot. Best protection on the market for around $230. I have the 2001 TCS and it is very comfortable and offers the best ankle support/protection, bar none. I also have a pair of Sidi Race Carbon boots ($350) and while they are nice they still aren't quite up to the same level of protection.

I bought the SMX Plus from www.newenough.com . They are good people to deal with. Their website shows what they have in stock. The boots are well made and have a lot of protection, but are kind of stiff.
