Poll Question: Is the 12R right for me?
Greetings all. I'm quite happy to see a forum dedicated to this great motorcycle and it's afficianados! All the other sites are devoid of 12R information and the newest posts regard the launch of the 12R!
At any rate, right now I'm considering the purchase of a 12R. My last bike was a 7R and I thought it was a fantastic bike, just a bit on the heavy side and somewhat underpowered. Right now I'm looking at a nice 02' with 5k miles on it and an asking price of $4500. Now, I never really considered the 12 because it always seemed to me as too much bike for my needs. However, the deal seems almost too good to pass on (it is a deal, right?).
Just a few questions though.
Do you find the 12R to be too bulky for daily-riding situations? I found my 7R to be a little on the hefty side when manuevering in parking lots etc. I know the seating position on the 12 is a little different, so I'm hoping it's low-speed characteristics are a littler better.
Are the bike difficult to work on? I've heard yes and no, but no clarifications.
Thanks guys for your help! Hopefully I'll be rolling around on a 12R soon.

Yes it's hard to work on if you're ALL thumbs as many are. No it's not at all a bitch for me to work on. I also own a 10R and it has it's share of PITA areas to get at as well. It seems packaging wins out over being easy to work on these days. That's alright by me because the gains are well worth the extra troubles. Get the 12R and learn the search feature on this and other boards. You have several years of catching up to read up on.

Another question that maybe ask........Are you right for the zx12....lol. Hey if I was you I would go for it. My first back was a zx11 c model which was heavier than the 05 12 I have. I agree it's a tall bike but I lower it and it rides fine. Your stepping up in power. Respect that and you should be okay.

How Tall are you and what do you weigh, What area of the Country do you live and How Old are you and how long have you been riding! All important as the Blast Master was getting at "Are you right for the Bike!

My ZX12 fits me just fine but then again I am a 6'4' gorilla
If your short ??? No offence but I would try riding one first cuase they are kinda on the tall side... and it is heavier than alot of the one liter bikes out but if you want a real WOW factor bike then just buy it

I'm 5'11", I've been riding since childhood. My first bike was Ninja 250 back in 00'. Since then I've owned a Nighthawk 650 (One of the best!), Yamaha V-Max, and an 03' ZX7R.
To make a long story short, I bought the 12R today. One sit and one quick ride SOLD me and I'm in love. It feels lighter than my 7R, but that's largely due to the seating position and location of the fuel cell. Thanks for your input!

congrats on the new ride, sounds like you got a killer deal. Do a search on any questions you might have, a lot of times, you just gotta find the right keyword. If you cant find what you are looking for, then post up. There are years worth of info on the bike posted here and other sites.
Again, congrats on the new ride.

If a 00 250 Ninja was your first bike, "Childhood" was not that long ago (I understand what you meant! That was the first Bike "SInce" You have grown up and gotten a new bike for yourself. I have one of them also which is my wife's Bike.)
The 02 ZX12R is a lot easier to ride than the 00 & 01. Be careful because they are a little more unstable than the early ones because the steering is quicker.

I agree!!!!!!!!!!!! I would probably get rid of my 12R if it wasn't for the fact that I would lose my ass on it at this point. As much as I lovethe 12R it don't boil my blood like my 10R does. The 12 seems like a cruiser bike compared to the 10R. Do yourself a favor if you own a 12 and don't ride a 10!! It will spoil you just ask Otis

A gsxr 1100
And now the 12
Just RESPECT THE THROTTLE! Even @ low rpms in 3rd sometimes I'll be riding relaxed 1 armed and just whack it with my body a little too loose....damn if it doesn't sometimes hurt the neck!

wow man, i remember when i FIRST saw a zx-12 on the showroom floor! i got mine may 1, 2003. as soon as i saw it, i HAD to have it. it fit me perfectly! i was a little bit smaller (shoulders are much wider now and im a little taller and definetly more handsome), but man, it was love at first sight. never liked the busa then, and i still dont now. the zx-12 was the sexiest machine on the floor- and there was plenty of other mopeds to choose from. wow, memories make me smile... i still smile every time i walk into the garage and see her.
125 lbs? my head weighs more! i wouldnt even be 125 pounds as a skeleton!

Just rode my first 7r today. Man, that thing has no legroom and is much more crotchrockety than the 12 is. The 12 is just flat comfy to me. A great all around bike if you don't mind a little heft.

i enjoyed one of mitch boehm's editorials awhile back...it said something to the effect of ' when was it that all bikes that weighed over 450 lbs become boat anchors? and all bikes that made under 160 HP became slugs?' gotta love technology huh?
