"Redo the kitchen"?
That's the BEST excuse you can come up with? Oh, and throw in the "weather" thing, just to CYA? Ypu'll have to do better then THAT!
I'm seriously thinking about leaving for the Gap on the 12th, instead of the 11th. At least that will give me a Saturday just to get my shit together. As if I haven't already blown three weekend doing just that. Oh, two and a half weekends... actually.
Went out for a ride on Sat. 4/6. They said there was a 20% chance of rain, but they kept saying if we got any rain, it would be late that night. Well, I found all 20% of it and unless the weather babes think 3:30 pm is late at night, the "scattered showers" arrived a tad early and about 100 miles from where the said it would be. The bike was filthy from all the road crap and car spray.
Since on Sun. 4/7, they said the chance would increase to 60%, I started tearing down my bike (in true "Red Elk" fashion - to the frame and engine) so I could clean everything and check everything out before the Gap. It was so nice to see all that sunshine on Sunday while my bike was it's rear stand and a pair of jack stands up front. I had taken the forks off to change the oil (again - wrong oil wt. the first time).
Rain was again forcasted for the following weekend of 4/13-14. Again, the higher chances were on Sunday. They missed it again. Rained hard till noon on Sat., followed with bright sunshine and cool temps on Sunday. The bike gets more stuff taken off to be cleaned, checked or serviced (as I watch folks go riding by).
This last weekend, they got it right. They said rain on Sat. and clear on Sunday. I figured that I'd have everything back together on Sat. so I could do some "test riding" the next day.
There was just one little problem. Unlike the previous weekend, the temps were in the mid to high 80's and was muggy as hell on Sat. My garage door was open for about the first 2 to 3 hours after it had stated raining on Sat. It was too damn hot to keep it closed. BAD MOVE, Elkster!
The humidity was so bad, the smooth concrete floor of my garage got wet. I almost slipped and busted my ass several times. Closing the garage door and trying to mop up the damp floor didn't work. The garage just turned into a sauna. All bike work was postponed for over 8 hours. By that time, it was 11 pm.
With that delay, the bike was finally put back together at about 10 pm on Sunday night. I still haven't put on the new chain and rear sprocket or the new tires. That is still planed for next Saturday.
Since our company makes decals and signs and since our election primaries ar on 5/21... well you figure it out. In at 9 am out at midnight, M-F. We haven't been this busy in over 8 years. We've doubled the production staff (from 3 to 6), yet what little help we were getting in the art dept. was moved to production. Now, I'm looking at non-political workorders that are 3 weeks old (including Mad Mike's job), when they usually stay in the art dept. for about THREE DAYS!
I'm still at work at 11:40 pm and still have 2 hours worth of work (if I quit writing). I haven't done a damn thing on the G3 decals or the nametags. The decals will take a week just to squeeze into a free spot in the production schedule (which there really isn't any). Not to mention packing clothes, gear, installing my tool box in the trailer, taking the truck to the shop to get work done and all that other crap.
If I try to do everything before Sat 5/11, I'll be up all night Friday. A real smart thing to do before driving around 10 hours and 600 miles through the land of the "merge to one lane and orange cones" pulling a trailer.
You wanna whine? Oh... WAIT! Both of us are going to the Gap a WEEK before everybody else! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Nevermind.

I picked up my bike tonight and with the host of mod's that have been done I have managed to improve prefection. Hard to believe I understand but the truth is the truth.
Picking up my bike at 2100 (that's 9:00 pm for you slow people) had good thick 55 degree chicago are to breath, and she loved it. 1st and 2nd gear whelies at just a flick of the wrist. This is going to be great.
