Kawasaki UK warranty
OK..I bought a 'new' ZX12R in June. It was a pre reg B2 model on an 54 plate with obviously ZERO miles on the clock.
Got it for the going price and love the bike...but when I got the paperwork back from Kawasaki...they would only honour the seven months warranty on the bike as it was obviously registered '54.
I wrote to them explaining that the bike was 'new' and was pre reg but they ( today ) sent me a letter saying they hadn't authorised any pre reg so wouldn't offer me the 2 year warranty !!
I bought the bike from an authorised Kawasaki dealer and assumed when the two year warranty was mentioned that it was a Kawasaki warranty and not a 'shop special, we'll look after you Sir ' warranty !! I have no warranty in writing as I was awaiting the letter from Kawasaki that all new owners receive when they buy a bike.
One of the main reasons for buying the bike WAS the warranty and this has definately taken the edge off my purchase.
I'll have to take it on the chin ( expect the bloody bike up for sale shortly and bye bye Kawasaki) but at least I'll inform the new owner of the circumstances etc.
Not willing to throw the towel in immediately though...today I have sent another letter to Kawasaki appealing for a goodwill gesture and to give the bike a manufacturers warranty....I'll let you all know the response as and when I get it.
You would think though that a manufacturer would have faith in their own product to honour a two year warranty.
Hopefully I'll never have to claim but I can be almost 100% assured that if it threw a con rod or destroyed an expensive gearbox, then I'd be well and truelly on my own because of the cost of a shop warranty repair !!! I've no grudges against anybody, my dealer is sound, but I just would like the manufacturers warranty
Still the guy at Kawasaki has been polite as I have, so as soon as his letter arrives........I'll update.
I'd appreciate any constructive comments ( I know I have been a little naive re this matter so don't crucify me - please !!!)
Cheers

Kevs bike ? This one is brand new..just pre-reg !!! I've nothiong but praise for the dealer..it's all been a big misunderstanding at the time of purchase ( and the dealer has confirmed to kawasaki that they will honouir the remainder of the 2 year warranty - so top marks to them)..with the customer obviously at the sharp end. I'm just hoping that kawasaki will have the confidence in their top of the range product to allocate me a 2 year warranty..if they don't then I'm afraid I'm the sort of guy with principles who would cut off my nose to spite my face ...and try another model/manufacturer. I couldn't possibly stay with Kawasaki if they won't even supply a warranty to me for a brand new pre-reg bike !!

You know wirral no matter what type of warranty you have, here in the USA, every time you bring your bike in they will tell you its not covered or its due to outside influence, it isn't the bikes fault, they always try and fight you on something, thats just the way it goes pretty much. well atleast here at these dealerships in colorado.

Since I spat my dummy out with the Kawasaki GB warranty department......the bike has sat at the back of the garage sulking under a dust cover and I've been using my other bike... ...so took her out today with a view to part ex her......BUT, what a lovely ride I had !!
I'll definately NEVER buy another Kawasaki but fell in love with the ZX12r today...the awesome brakes even saved me from a possible prang when the proverbal twat turned right , in front of me and my back wheel was waving to everyone in the the air !!!
Done a massive 2,400 miles now.....Ninja lime green IS the fastest btw
