Dan there's a guy over at .ORG that put up a post on stator fix with pics. Within that post he address the problem that it seems you're having with the head lights. He gives a fix CHECK IT OUT!! It may be your problem as well..

the headlights are designed to go out if the starter button is pressed while the engine is running and then come back on when the button is released.
I'm checking into that circuit after while...........I'm 'bout over this thing!
Dan
On my 00 12R if I hit the starter button after the engine is running it turns off the headlamp and remains off until the key is cycled to the off position then back to the on position, Then the headlamp is out until the engine fires up.

Mike,
Got them fixed, Kawasaki worked with me since the "recall" failed.
Good news is.....they work. Bad news is.....Don't know what/where the problem was. The stator, regulator/rectifier and j-box were replaced.
I really appreciate everyone's help.

It don't hurt to have a son pulling from the inside either does it That's good news Dan! Heck with all new parts that baby is good for a long time to come.
