Rotors: can semi-floating be converted to full floating???

We all know that ZX11 and ZX12 front rotors are semi-floaters. They can expand radially under heat effect but they can't move laterally. The way the OEM buttons are designed, they are a tight squeeze between carrier and rotor's blade. Is it possible to convert those semi-floater rotors (OEM or after-market ones) to full floater units? There's a wave washer built into the buttons and if this washer could be removed, lateral play would be possible and rotor would now act like a full floater. Or, maybe after-market buttons could be used after stockunits have been grinded out. Does anybody already tried this? Or is it a too stupid idea... Thanks!
