Hehe, I know that place...lol. Sorry to hear you were a customer...that place SUCKED! That idiot tried to tell me I should *remove* the turbo off of my GPz and put a bigbore kit in it because it would run better. What an idiot.
He moved his shop the Regency area quite a few years ago and I think he recently sold the place and its called 7 Bridges Cycle. Place was ALWAYS a rip off and did shody work. THe one DORK he had working for him was so tempermental, he would quit on a weekly basis.
I always laugh at the caliber of shops available in Jax. Somewhere between lame and pitiful!
Mayport is alive and well with *fresh* squids and daylaborers! It baffles me how $600,000 are only 50yds apart from $1500 single wide trailers...lol.
THere is a new shop now near Levy Rd called Kurts. He specializes in Moto Guzzis and GasGas dirtbikes. Has LOTS of junk specially priced for squids. 1988 FZ600 priced at $3500. (brand new they were $3k!)
There is yet another shop 1 block away about to open up too.
quote: There a place that started on Mayport road, I used to go there back in like 91-93 when I was in the Navy out there. They moved to past some mall, fuck cant remember that far back. Was ran by a guy named Mike, was very into sprint cars. Ah well, maybe he retired.

ah well
When I had my GS1150ES a guy that worked there Rob was a cool guy and never did me wrong. It has been 10 years since I was there so no biggie. Mike (the owner) was cool with me but never did work on my bike. Hell ya could go to Lee's (if hes still around) and have then fuck everything up. But as I said this is 10 years ago.

Stopped by with Steve today. Nice lookin shop!!
dyno room was pretty sweet too! Certainly does have the "feel" of a harley store and might not attract much of the sportbike crowd without some serious word of mouth advertisement
However they all seemed like good people and I have no complaints with my service. Ill have to try the dyno out

don't buy anything special order from atlantic cycle
if he has it there instock, he usually can price it decently (like tires)
if ordered, forget it.
nice guy, unreliable....
anyways theres this little shop on blanding, d & c machine
he does machinework on anything you can bring in or mail to him
very nice work. friend had his TL heads port/polish/3-angle valvejob. price was about 300. heads came out looking brand new. no kidding. (and runs like a scalded 'rabbit' (per speed channel commentators' version of the saying))
when we were dropping them off, there was a head lying in a box on the floor, was painted, looked like it just came out of OEM box. (3 cylinder marine engine it came from) anyways we asked if it was new or rebuilt, he had just finished working it over. VERY impressive.
most of his work was hardley, but he would do anything.. quoted me 300 for complete head rework, port, polish and 3-angle) (4cyl 16vlv)
welp have fun, hope this helps out someone

kev, you can still finish my bike(compression) at your house , right? I figure , your boss should be ok with it considering you have over a year into my 12. Once you do that, then we can take it up to his shop to tune it

Eric...I look at you as my "friend" and...I will ALWAYS work on your bike...
I can't tell you when I can do it for sure right now but I'll let you know
I NEED to finish Steve's bike FIRST...he's been VERY patient with me...
The DragBike I'm working on had a problem with the head and that's been holding me up also...
Don't panic...I'll boost your "compression" soon enough
Feel free to call the shop for a full map on the VTX whenever you want to...VERY COOOL dyno room...LITERALLY!!!

Kevin, how much would a mapping of my PC3 cost? Do you guys removed body work or no since the room is cooled? How long does it take and should I do it when a rear tire replacement is emminent? Sorry for all the Q's

As stated above...a full mapping is $200...
I'll have to ask if it includes the fairing removale...
I wouldn't want to run a bike on the dyno with fairing no matter how good the air flow is...
I can take the ZX12 fairings off in my sleep so...I'll tell them that I think it should be included...
It shouldn't take more than 2-hours...that includes ALL the B.S.ing around (tour of shop, mapping, paperwork, talking, yada-yada)...
What does changing a tire have to do with fairings and dyno work???(not trying to be a smart-ass)...
We can do either-or-both...anytime you want...
They don't have many "Sportbike" tires in stock yet though (they're waiting for me to tell them what to get)...

I have heard that dyno runs are hard on tires so I wanted to know if I should get the dyno tuning done when my tire was just about wore out and needed to be replaced....

Sorry I didn't get the right meaning of your tire question (DOH)
Dyno runs "can be" hard on tires but...the Tunning Link software is MUCH easier on tires/engines than the "old way" of full mapping (manual)
It doesn't actually "hold the engine at each 500rpm" it just runs through the entire rpm range somewhat slower than a "HP/fuel-ratio reading pull" does...
2-pulls (3 if first one doesn't get it perfect) are done for each throttle position in the map...(IE 100% 80% 60% ect)...
It's up to you if you want to do the mapping towards the end of your current tires life but it would obviously be better for your New Tire if it wasn't on the bike during the mapping
We have run John's bike on the dyno WITH the M/T Shootout tire (sticker on tire says NOT to run tire on dyno) without "hurting it"...

WOW!!!
Damn Brian! That's great speed!!!
I ran 123mph Sat. night...couldn't believe it then John told me he put "some" Nutec in the tank before I got there
Sorry I missed you guys at the shop...
I was helping Dean put his "bigger valves" ZRX back together and visiting whith my Father
Steve...
I'll call you tomorrow after work (thur...I get home after 7PM)...
Better yet...CALL ME AT WORK if you get a chance tomorrow (it will be OK)
If not...I'll call you after work...
Troy's bike??? (EEEK!) I would NOT let my bike be "seen let alone HEARD" if it was running like his was!?!?!? WHAT A JOKE!!!
90 freakin HP!?!?!? had like 80psi compression in one cylinder, ALL 4 cylinders were leaking from the intake valves...LOL...
NEVER seen a cam chain so far out of adjustment on a KZ
in my life!!!
VERY lucky it didn't blow ON THE DYNO!!!
You would have to see the valve job/porting that was done on this head to believe it...I saw it and STILL don't believe "someone" actually charged money for it!?!?!?
They had the 45* angle so far in on the valve that it was a COMPLETE waste of time/money even HAVING oversized valves in it!!!
If he (Troy) is for real??? we (Stock Mild to Wild) will build him a MUCH better motor than he has EVER had before (after seeing THIS thing)

I got a dyno question
I've been told that different brands of sportbike tires will result in different dyno numbers. If I rember correctly, my source said that the better the tire grips the drum, the LOWER the numbers. Is there any truth to this? My unnamed source said that a GSXR did some runs with a D207 and then came back with a Pilot on back, and the numbers wer about 3~5 HP lower. Is this "BS" or is there some kind of logical truth to this?

anything is possible...i would think that a bigger factor would be how hard the bike is "Strapped down" in the rear onto the drum more than the tire itself.

I carried my 12 to stock, mild to wild Friday to make a custom fuel map. I must say I was impressed with the dyno room, the shop and all the equipment. Like Kevin stated they do mostly Harley work, but would like to get into the import work. Kevin and Ryan stayed with the bike until it was as close to perfect as possible. The bike definitely runs and rides better now, I also picked up 5.5 more HP all for $200. This was the first 12 that has done on their dyno(with the tuning link software) so it took alittle longer than what I expected, but they stayed with it until it was right.
