I think I am Even Less Impressed with the ZX14

I took my Friends Stock ZRX 1100 (Muzzy 4-1 and Pods) over to my friends Dynoto see if it would make about 110 HP! Ir made 109.6 Hp on the 3rd Run and on the 4th Run 114.01.

The ZX14 with 2 Brothers full 4-2-2 and PC made 166, 169 and on an ALL gears made 175.6 Spike HP

i feel the same way. zx-14 is kind of a let down, was hoping for something a little more
definetly doesnt compare, in any way, to my stroker 12.
dont know if youre being sarcastic, but, i think kawi couldve done a little better on power... the sluggishness under 5k rpm is almost unacceptable....

Dissapointed is more like it! Yes, they made is Ugly enough to attract the Busa Crowd, but like my Favorite Web Master Jeoren said, They should have done Ugly First!

Yes it has more torque but it is a Refined, Civilized bike sort of on the scale of a "Honda"! The ALl Black one look the Best, but still why 40 Headlights and emblems on the front (Actually over 8 lights in front!) Do people spend that much time in the dark? Or are they hiding from the Day light so that no one will see them? You could see the Dissapointment in the guys face and considering I had "Tuned" my ZX12R with 10 to 1 Compression on Stock Bore Pistons with no port work or cams to close to 166 HP (What he made on his first run, he was not pleased! Maybe the Dyno Guy should have used STD Numbers so he could have over 180! (Understand that STD Uses 59 degree AirTemp and no Humidity and 29 inches of Mercury where SAE is closer to 80 degrees air temp!)

I hate to say this but this may be the first time Kawasaki made an "A" Model that was Refined to death from the start! I bought a 2nd year H-1 the Refinning process has just begun. I bought a 2nd Year H-2 750 same thing but still enjoyable. I bought a 1st year 900 Ninja maybe the best bike I have ever possessed! Then the "C" Model ZX11 still great would have never bought a "D" Or this thing!

It is sort of like watching Democrats trying to be Republicans and ending up not being good at either! Not making a Political Statement Otis, just the General Disgust over the Monster!

i bought the all black zx-14, and immediately thought that kawi shouldve released this in 2000. i purposely was waiting for the B model to come out because i am a firm believer that i shouldnt own anything in its first year of production- but i never planned on modifying this in any way- so i bought extended warranty (who knows what could happen with an A model??)
i wasnt impressed with the zx-14 when i first saw it at the jacob javitz center in the beginning of the year- and im still not impressed when i rode it. it is very smooth and refined however. i really do love my zx-12 though.... always will
suzuki is gonna come out with something that will really slaughter the zx-14, but hopefully not too soon. but when it does, i think kawasaki might lose some very loyal customers.

OH Yea of little knowledge! Ask Rickey Gadson what I was doing in Daytona this year?? I even have the Pictures to Prove it and it was a Black one also!. I even reported on it about the fact that I spent a lot of time watching the Gas Mileage gauge and some of the time letting it rip in TOP Gear from about 2,000 rpms on up!

If you read the title of this thread, it states that I am even LESS Impressed! To me, that would mean that I had an impression that has now been "Lessened"! Well, I thought everyone here knew I rode them at Daytona this year because I had written about it! Please do not say that I needed to take the Bike out for a week long ride and evaluation! When you take a fine woman to bed and things are Horrible, how many times do you need to repeat that process before you make up your mind? Now Take a Big Ugly Woman to Bed and have the same experience, do you think you will be more or less likely to to want to experience this over and Over again for weeks at a time to make up your mind? When I rode the ZRX 1100 I immediately loved the bike! When I got my ZX12R, I did not need to ride it weeks and weeks before I decided that I liked it, I knew on the first ride within a few minutes! The rest of the time was just learning how much I could enjoy the Monster.

I do not want a Woman or Motorcycle that I have to "Learn to Love"! EVER!

"I forgot the most important thing about why I was even less impressed today! They put A High speed Blower fan in the nose of this 14 when they did the runs so the "Real Numbers" May(??) even been WORSE![.b]

Atleast you can keep a clutch in a 14, everytime i raced my 12 the clutch let me down. Dont get me wrong i like the looks on my 12 way better. But i think the 14 is gonna be a strong piece 2 work with.

Dan, Remember the statement the Car Dealers state about the Fuel Mileage firgure, ""Your" Mileage may Vary"!

That was Chad on the Bike that ran that number! You are a VERY Skilled Rider in Land SPeed Racing and have gone over 200 several times. On that exact Same Bike you (Who I consider to be a more "NORMAL" SIzed Guy) ran about 186 which is a number you have bettered on your ZX12R that was Stock. With just a Pipe and PC3 you have Run better than the 196 on your 12! Randall has run 186 without Spray on my ZX12R only making 161 HP and Randall has 30 Pounds and at least 1/2 foot on Chad. On a NA ZX12R with some work done on it (That made is about the same engine size of the 14), BOTH of your Sons have run over 207 MPH.

SO yes it ran 196 at Maxton in the Normal length of the track. But I also remember a ZX12R stock and Modified that Mr. Muzzy had that ran as good or Better Numbers there and a Normal Human (If anything about DM IS normal) SIzed Human was riding it. SO I am "STILL" Waiting to be Impressed!

I hear alot of guys saying 14 compared to 12 is very tame, too tame!!!

I dont understand why you would be upset???...Have you ever left a bike of yours stock???...There are mods that will wake the 14 up for your likeing !!!

the state of tune on the 14 isn't as high as it could be.. If it had 12.7 to 1 compression. 47mm throttle bodies, a ram air system that makes 13 horsepower instead of 10, a little more rev limit, and a little more in the intake cam it would have 185 RWHP easy..

remember its suppose to be a cross between the zzr1200 and the zx12r.. probably more zzr than zx

THE 2006 ZZR1400/ZX14 ARE HERE TO REPLACE THE ZZR1200.JUST LIKE THE ZX12R,IT WASNT REALLY MEANT TO REPLACE THE ZZR1100/ZX11 ..THE ZZR1200 WAS BORN IN 2002 TO REPLACE THE 1100S.

ZZR-1100,1200,1400.zzr/zx without R
zzr1100- 1052cc (1990-2001) 12years(90-93Cmodels:94-01Dmodels)
zzr1200- 1164cc (2002-2005) 4years(Cmodels)
zzr1400- 1352cc (2006-20??)
1)semi flush mount frt/rear signal lights
2)pillion bar
3)dual exhaust
4)single banana seat

zzr1100-zzr1200-zzr1400 these 3 just kinda looks the same.

In my thinking, it is a Tourer Sport. where the ZX11 was a Sport Tourer. I have Owned Kawasaki's from 1968 with my A7SS that I cut the Rotary Valves, Typhoon Air Cleaners and put on Expansion Chambers. This bike is one of the few that do not Feel like a Kawasaki, I also had an extreme distaste for the ZX11D, It Just Feels like a "Honda" as opposed to a Kawasaki

I am not as much "Upset" as I am Dissapointed! This guy has done all he can for what is available and at this same point of Time, The ZX12R in July / August 2000 there were no Power Commanders and very few pipes. In August 2000 I bought a Used Akrapovic that made 166 HP which is about where this guy is now because that was on a Dynojet 150 which read real low and is closer to 174 or 175 HP on a DJ 250 SAE.

If you could have seen the look on his face before and after, it just plain made me feel bad! It is horrible that the Magazines and some Performance places are using STD Numbers when the true Apple to Apple is SAE. SO when people are seeing HP in the 180 in the Magazines and Performance suppliers and then put their bikes on the Dyno's and see 160's and very Low 170's they are not pleased.

The #1 Problem with STD HP is the Air temp it uses is 59 degrees where the SAE is in the 80 degree range. Most People are out riding their bikes when the temp is in the 70 to 90 degree range and not the 50 to 60 degree range.

I am glad I do not have one and will watch to see if they can easily be made to make 200 RWHP SAE Net! Then I will start to feel better about them. To feel good about them I will need to see the same kind of Numbers the Busa Guys are able to make NA>

Park 12R You are 100% correct from my view point and even Kawasaki's. We have all had a taste of the Forbidden Fruit with the 2000 12R and as far as I am concerned, it ruined me for Life!

Too tame?. I think this may be a good thing. The 12 (Which I love 2 death!!) came out in a high state of tune, you could only go so far with it. 14 is mildly tuned (compared to the 12) which gives you a lot to play with!!! I say give it a year so all of the tuners can play with it for a while.

After reading some of the things I have been posting for the last 2 days, I was thinking the same thing myself! I love Y2K's project but could not contain myself when he posted the numbers in STD and I guess when they put the blower in front of the ZX14 and it made the Horrible numbers and I can still see the look on that guy's face I think I lost it!

Crotch tell the truth, did it feel like a "KAWASAKI"?? Or maybe a little too refined to be one! To me, Refined means civilized Vanillia Ice Cream. If you ever rode the Original H-2 750 in 1972 or even the 1973 and then the 1975 or 1976 you would be hard pressed to know they were the same! Well in this light, this is a 1985 H-2 where everything has been smoothed out to Vanillia!

OldKawboy's son Chad goes 196 on a stock bike with gear taken out of it...the bike still made awesome mph with less gear,Brock has one going 9.0's using his pipe, maps and good fuel, stock gearing, and foot shifting the bike.It seems that Kawasaki has made a bike that is civilized enough for the everyday rider/sport tourer yet is strong enough to go 195+ and run a 9 second flat 1/4 mile et... How fast would this bike go with one of Bergies dry shots on it??How quick would it go with Crotch Rocket making a bunch of passes on it???
This bike is very impressive to me!

Not Sour, Just not Grapes as sweet as I thought they should be! The Bike never turned me on and watching the Few I have seen out on the street has and is doing nothing to change that! Sort of like the way we all felt when Kawasaki for what ever reason gave us a bike that was slower top speed than the Busa

It takes a MAN to go against the grain Mr. Hill. Your reasons are sound for what you have posted. I feel that there is probably a large Hp difference between production bikes. Honda has always had this problem in my opinion. Now it seems Kawasaki is having problems maintaining a number across the board. I'm waiting to see more numbers get posted before I condem the whole lot of them. I feel the 14 is a excellent platform to build something great from. The future looks good for the bike as soon as some HARD parts become avalible. Let's not forget Kawasaki wanted a Busa Beater and a Busa and a 12R were completely different bikes from the get go linked only by their MAX top speed numbers.
