decking the block
Working on a 1390? that needs a little decking since the head gasket was leaking a little too long between two cyclinders. It's got a little groove maybe .020 deep and .080 long. The blocks been bored the max already. Any danger or risk of the coating flaking off if it's decked? Well I know there's some risk just really curious if anyone else has decked one yet. BTW, this engine stacked a rod bearing and the piston was definitely banging the head a bit but I can find no real damage from that. As a matter of fact, all the pistons had signs of touching or nearly touching the head. The squish is a little on the tight side.

My 1361 had the pistons hitting the head and made great power, but the rod bearings didn't like it too much.
Millennium says that you can deck the block without hurting the nikasil, BUT you need to use a surface grinder, not a mill.
I have had my billet block decked twice by Millennium. Great work, fast turnaround.

Alas. If only I owned a bike. I almost always have a 12 or other bike strowed around my garage though.
