Schnitz front strap Just wondered what the correct method was on strapping the front end. Do you go over the triple tree or the frame neck.

You can go over the frame neck, but make sure that you bolt the ends to the bottom brake caliper bolt DO NOT BOLT TO THE TOP BOLT!!!! if you do it will dig a huge gouge in your forks. I just used a couple of lock washers under the bolt end, so it would be flush,

Pay attention to the routing Also make sure you route the strap UNDER any cables or wiring so that there is no tension on those. If you mought them on the upper bolt be sure to tilt the metal tabs where it mounts to the calipers slightly rearward as well to avoid scarring the forks under compression.

Do you pull the forks down to the desired height, say 1.5 inch drop, or do you just use the strap to keep the front end from extending when you launch?

I suck that mutha down about as low as I can get it, even with the forks slid up an inch! Lower is better at the strip. I'd lower the rear the same or more than the front for stability reasons.

Swft I do it for both, I have my tubes down 1.25" already and then I strap it down from there.

I use the top bolts, but you need four washers or so to space it out. I use different bolts too. I think when you go over the frame it gives a little friction steering damper action. (I needed it once). Dropping the forks down any more than 3/4" could result in the fender hitting the snorkel. With only 1/2" the bike can be slammed about as low as it needs to be, and you don't have to change it to ride when your done racing. Have fun!
