orange pipes
Started the bike last nite for the first time after a valve job.I had the bike idling for 2 min for a heat cycle and noticed the collectors were orange to the bottom of the bike.Do I need to retard the ex. cam one tooth?Idled fine but studdered when I went to blip the throttle.

No.
What are the cams timed at?
Was the choke on fast idle for a while?
Do you have a map thats close that your starting with?
Have you retarded the ignition timing?

Weird but it didn't do it the second time while I was checking to see if it was all or one or two of the pipes.Cams are at 105/102.5.choke was on to start but I was able to turn it right off.The map is the same from last year and the manual timing is at 0,having retarded it from +2 for the 40hp spray.
VH- retarded meaning ignition timing or cam?

Ignition! The "Choke" does not really choke anything but more of an increase in speed of the engine that the computer should already know.
You may have a Build up that got hot in the pipe and has now burned away

My bike, an 02, made the collectors glow when on the choke. I thought it was the Kleen Air burning off excess fuel in the pipes

Were you in the dark or low light? It's not uncommon at all to have aftermarket pipes glow in the dark.

It was 6pm with the garage door open.The second time was around 9pm.This is on an older akro that I haven't used for a year or so.I wanted to see if I could tell the difference between that one and the ti-force.I have never seen pipes glow except for that f1 car engine.What spooks me is this was at an idle.

check.....
make sure your throttle sensor hasnt moved
make sure All of your connecxtions are made corredtl
& not pinched
2 years ago(a lot has changed.....posts are gone)
there were 2 wire that could be inadvertently hooked up ......
that gave a similar problem
several made that mistake butttoning their 12
back together & having a problem
id ride in around a lite throttle 35-40mph until it warms up
then see if it settles down

I think it was for people that were color Blind and connected the MAP Sensor connector to the TPS and vice versa! SInce the TPS Is Black and the MAP is Gray this is one time not to intergrate!
