tail-light help please...

burnt out bulbs on my 12 last night. looked at fuses the new bulbs installed. now when i applied brake, 1bulb brightens, the other goes out! is this right? also after a minute, both bulbs are real hot to touch just with the running light. i know the bulbs get real hot wit the brake light held on. is this normal? then i snapped my chain last night! anybody got a stock length chain they wanna let go? took off the extensions to cut chain, but now it runs tight then loose as i spin the wheel jumpin' up and down making ugly sounds as it goes 'round...it's toast! thanx for any help. A.J.

u sure u have the correct model of bulb and it is correctly installed? sounds like it could be a case of one of the contacts crossing or otherwise not lining up correctly. otherwise, check ALL the fuses. i beleive there might be separate circuits for hte taillights and brake lights. i wouldnt be surprised at all about the bulbs getting hot in "low" mode. a lower wattacge househodl bulb isn't exactly cool to the touch either.

There is only one way to prematurely burn out bulbs and that is with too much voltage. They will get warm but not super hot with normal voltage. Are you sure that the bulbs are not 6 volt? It could be your voltage regulator took a dive.

Swap the bulbs over to make sure you have same fault and it aint one bulb. Check your earth/ground and connectors first. And bulb adaptors for corrosion etc.

Start simple

thank you sir's, i'll give it a try... your all saying that both bulb should brighten w/brake applied right? a guy at work said one may go out when the other brightens, and idid try switching both new bulbs. when i bought bulbs at auto zone, they didn't have the 1157h that was in but he said the 1157LL they had would work as long as the rounder/larger would go into the opening ok.. iv'e been in the garage the last 3 hours trying to figure if my chain or sprockets are bad. changed front back to stock from 17, chain still spinning tight then loose as i rotate wheel. put 2 other rear sprocketson, same crap! jerkin'/jumpin on the rear stand. i was hoping sprockets were out of round cause i got extra's but must be the damn chain! any one got a good 1 for sale? thanx,AJ.

Buy the right bulbs and put in dont rely on muppets that work in auto stores, if it don't look the same it aint the same!

Can you pull your chain from the sprocket? or do u have any tight links? if so it is scrap.
Dont mess around with second hand chains buy new and fit with new sprockets.

The chain on my CBX did that. It was stiff links in the chain. Get a new one, it's toast. No sense taking a chance on it breaking at speed.
As for the bulbs, I've had cars do the exact same thing and it was always a bad ground when it happened to me.
