fish reported the same thing, of a particular journalist throwing sparks at full speed all around the track, but the speed he was doing is obviously in debate. probably a mixup of indicated vs actual speeds. shame they didnt use a larger oval or a big airstrip, but i guess u gotta use what u can get.

I thought the limiter kicked in when the speedo reads 186. From experience on my GSX-R1000K5 the (optimistic) digital readout freezes at 186, and with accurate electronic timing equipment and standard gearing that's actually less than 180. I know the ZX is analogue but I figured the same kind of limitation would apply.
More to the point, how are they de-restricted? Any information yet?

Thanks Fish. Those KMC engineers need better "engrish" lessons so they wont be "deceived". Good write up, very informative, no fluff. If I wanted to be stroked I would go to Falicon eng. and pay for it

Vincent, Rob Muzzy already posted on the ZX14 forum that Muzzys will soon be releasing a "bonneville box" type product for the ZX14. Maybe PM him and get some release date estimates?

Thats true that after '00, when the bikes get limited they also limited the speedo to 299kph/186mph. But speedos are still optimistic and the bikes actually accelerate to the true 299kph/186mph (if they can) even if the speedo dosen't show anymore.

I guess that means the ECU is looking at RPM in 6th gear for the restriction then? I hated the TRE method of overcoming the top speed restrictor on my Suzuki because I found the gear position indicator genuinely useful and this was disabled, permanently reading 5th. But if the ZX-14 makes enough power to pull different gearing then 186mph could be exceeded with no other mods. The only downside being a pessimistic speedo rather than optimistic. I'm just looking at top speed here, not drag's or road riding.

You could simply add a bicycle speedo called Sigma
You always need to calibrate it anyway
You should add the needed magnet (or one even smaller)
cloe to the axis - usually front, but if you do a lot wheelies
then perhaps you want one int he back - maybe both
if you have also a habbit to slide (you will with this bike!)
The only thing I need is the neutral light

Well in fact (at least on ZX12) the ECU is looking at the speed sensor. It uses the same signal as the speedo but the speedo only reads it "wrong" and gives You higher than actual speed.
