Steering head bearing replacement....
Got my old ones out okay but now trying to figure out how to get the new ones in without using the tool that's in the shop manual. I'm not too crazy about just banging the races in.
What'd you guys use that have done this?
Thanks,
Dan

You can pull them in by using threaded rod and some nuts, a flat plate, and piece of circular flat plate (or a socket) that is just a tiny bit smaller than the OD of the bearing race.
Normally I would drive the bearing in after having frozen the race and heated the frame with a heat gun, but you can pull them in as well. Sometimes a person has to figure out ways to do things that sound bad on paper, but are really quite acceptable.....using a socket as a driver is one of those instances. I always prefer to use the proper tool for the job, but if I have no choice I will do whatever I have to...to accomplish the job...
