Deal's Gap, 2-25-2006

well, 59 degrees, cloudy, chance of rain, 100% chance of riding.

SVT drove by with the new R6 (Quite the sexay little vixen with all the OEM rear-end danglies removed) and we ate some food and suited up andhit the road.

Kidlet came with for a change and we had a goood ride. Went through Lenoir City after a brisk pace on 95 between oak ridge and Lenoir. Another little brisk pace between lenoir and 72.

Everything looked good, but just before foothills was in view i had a feeling and commented on the radio "Gonna lsow it down a bit, don't know if Policia will be around or not today, but doesn't hurt to be safe. Got to about 45 or so and as i looked ahead, there pulls mr blount county from the boat ramp, and parked in the little hidden place where the foothills exits 129....

No peace, slow down.....

Anyway we hit the bottom of the gap (non-stop since fuel topped off in lenoir) and halfway to overlook the back tire spins up on the red beast....so i back off. Tires are not warm enough to be playing with that throttle much...

Stopped at overlook for a Monkey-Butt break and got to overhear another biker (on a big yamaha cruiser) calling his friend and gloating about being at the overlook at the gap. MUahahahahahahaha!

I took a few photos, the old & the new:

After the photo shoot (yeh right!) we headed down the gap for a ride through. I took it easy because we weren't sure how nasty the road was. After a few miles it was apparent that the salt monster was washed off and it was a very nice surface. One spot of mud where someone had parked on the side and then driven out on the road, but otherwise clean and dry and clear.

About 7 miles from overlook it started to be really fun. RPMS up in the top 1/4 of the band (1st or 2nd gear mostly) just to listen to the engine scream (I needed that fix :P ) hit 14k (indicated) several times inadvertantly... Oh well, tough little engine that's for sure. It was 50 or so on the gap i would guess, and the temp guage was 105 when i got to the store... and that was after following a truckf or the last 1/2 mile crawling along...

sheesh.

Killboy & Crew were at the CROTch and he (Darryl) suited up for his maiden voyage on the new R6. SVT got to ride with Lori in the killboy-mobile (which comes with 4-point harness if that warns you of the ride that was about to happen)

Myself and kidlet suit up and follow behind a few minutes, so that we can get in the pictures and generally tear it up

We pass Lori the first time, they must have just gotten there. SVT said they heard the yzf singing a little before i got there, and didn't quite have the camera ready. No problem though we turned around and headed back for a real ham session Kidlet flashed his gang signs and we stopped and chatted as Darryl tried the little R6 out.

His initial take was good, some cleanup on throttle response would make him happier. But the rest of the ride was good. So off he goes to warm the tires back up and do some photos. Sadly my little camera's battery gave up the ghost so not action shots of Killboy dragging knee with SVT's R6.

:biglol

I had to get kidlet home so he can get clothes (Grows out of them almost faster than we can get them...) so i left. Buzzed the overlook at about 12k and took the scenic route over the foothills parkway (Which was nice too)

Just a little chilly, but otherwise a great trip.

I love riding hte Mille, but nothing really settles my soul like a good ride through the gap on the YZF.

yup was a blast.

today we got to do the 600 mile service on the R6.

Whichever engineer is responsible for the little plastic psuh-tabs holding half the fairings together needs to be shot a few times.

Ditto for the one who decided that the rectifier unit was perfectly fine to be hung out on the side outside the frame where a crash that slides on the front left side will destroy it and the wires going to it, ensuring a wrecker ride, or a race is finished sit out time if at a race....

you would think that a racing derived bike would have the vital pieces for running hidden away and protected so that a minor off doesn't end the race...
