Rear Sets
For a 2000 ZX12R.. Anyone have them? What Brand? And can you give me an honest opinion if they are worth the money? I live in Hawaii, so I'm not riding long distances. Aloha, Victor

Is it worth the money?What are your true motives for wanting them?Do you constantly scrape the stock pegs?How fast do you normally ride?I'm asking to just see if its a need or a want for the rear set.I made my own out of 1/8 stock.PIA in city riding imo.neat thing is,they can be reversed for lowering to drag race.I just had to drill an extra hole due to brake cylinder clearance.I say this because they are easy to make,just to try for a week or two to see if you'll like rear sets on the 12.I don't have any experience with any company,but Sato racing has a set also.

I was at the Lockart Phillips Booth at Indy and they had a couple sets of Gilles Rear Sets there. Drool, man they are some nice pieces. Very well machined and super lightweight. I would be interested in them if for sure I could lower the footpegs just a hair....

I was not scraping the stock pegs but I prefer the position of the Gilles (I have them at their lowest, furthest back setting. They do include the stock setting as an option.)
For the Superslab the stock position is probably a little better but where the riding is at all sporting the Gilles' position feels better. Individuals will vary I'm sure.
Incidentally, they don't save much weight as the stockers are actually pretty light themselves. I forget, but the savings is only about 1 lb or a pound and a quarter, somewhere around there. Nonetheless I'm certainly glad to have them.
I would agree that a nonadjustable set that puts the pegs where one happens to want them is potentially less expensive and equally useful.

Gilles are an expensive addiction Mike, thats for sure.
Of course my new R1 needs a set too . I'm beginning to re-remember how expensive it is to own two sportbikes.

well its not that i scrap the pegs.....i bought them for sheer engineering beauty that they have.....
the real advantage of these i came to know later when i rode the bike for the first time.....
the stock pegs are padded.....but these are bare metal....they let every bit of vib and road feel to my feet.....
the result is that i'm surer of the grip that i have.....have been leaning the bike more and more.... and my reactions are now quicker.....
end result being that now i'm more confident riding with full lean scraping my toe slider....

I like the look and quality of the Sato's but they look to have VERY limited amount of adjustment! WR

Here in DR, we make like adapters to raise the stock pegs, and the peg itself machine it of al.
cheap, for racing.

The Gilles rearsets look ok but they are a bad design. The two bolts that bolt the peg assembly to the adjustable bracket are too close together and won't support as much weight as other designs that move the bolts further apart. If you are a lightweight and don't stand up on the pegs very much they would probably be ok but I would go with a different brand (Harris, Sato, ect) just to be on the safe side.

All prior evidence and experience to the contrary.
I have NEVER heard of a Gilles peg breaking and I know guys on the MRA circuit that run them (and ride the shit out of them) that weigh 250+.
What proof do you have to back your theory?
