Muzzy dyno run 02ZX12r
I ran across this dyno run from Muzzy. How did they get 20 horsepower from only an exhaust and a pipe? What else did they do?

I only got 8hp out of mine

That was a pipe and a PCIIIR. Makes sense to me. What's wrong with your set up?

My 02 made 166 hp with the Muzzy map if I remember correctly.
My bike was just too rich with their map.
Doug @ Spencer Cycle tuned mine to 179.5 rwhp using the same STD scale.
The Muzzy figure is not exaggerated, even though my bike did not make the best numbers
with their map.

Dougmeyer, I have a question that I have never gotten a answer on and I know you would be the man to answer it. This will sound crazy but you may know the truth on it. I had a 2002 ZX12R with those exact mods. Same map, same pipe etc.. I had a accident on the pipe actually someone hit me. Oh well , got me a 03 12r put my goodies back on the bike because nothing was wrong with the pipe or powercommander and the 03 ZX12 was a slouch. It would never run like my 02 did. I was disquisted with it. Broke it in the same etc... Do you think I got a bad bike or was something different with it? Or have you seen several 12's with way different power outputs??? Thanks

It ran like shit with same map and then I remapped it and it didn't help. ??? I've paid hundreds of dollars before for custom mapping and some places do a great job however most places do not take the time to do a custom map right. So I have gotten pretty good at doing map by ass. AS long as I have a close map.. What I was wandering how much power differences have the same year same bike can differ in power? Major difference between these 2

my 02 12R made 154hp.....with the addition of a full Muzzy exhaust, K&N filter, PCIII with custom map from Stock, Mild to Wild in Jacksonville, FL, and a Muzzy ignition advance set at 4.5 degrees.....after this and some tuning on the part of kcadby the bike made 181 hp, and 98ft lbs of torque......
It can be done with a good tuner and the right combination of parts.....if I remember correctly Redelks ZX12R made 185 hp on a stock motor with similar mods......

185 on stock motor... hmmmmmm... there are dynos, and there are dynos...
sorry guys, but there are noobs out here that actually believe this stuff, and get real sad when their 12 with 5 degrees advance, full Muzzy/Akro/ whatever, KN filter, custom map get 168-170.
Your 181, VH's 185 and RedElks 185 are DYNO numbers to be proud of, but don't put any big money down at the track on those dyno numbers.

I hear what you are saying Entropy.....and I am not a drag racing guy.....but the bike was done by a very reputable tuner, in a shop that alot of guy on the board are using......For me the HP was bragging rights only, as it was strictly a street bike that I got to play with....

HDL,
I'm not busting yr chops, just putting in a warning for noobs who get real disappointed when their baby doesn't make the hp they read on the boards.
I know the warm fuzzy feeling of seeing big hp on a reputable dyno; saw SAE 229hp NA on Sabin's dyno in Dallas...
My motor generally makes between STD 215 - 225, (never made 229 again).
