zx12r rod bolts...

How many of you guys are reusing the rod bolts? Kawi doesnt want them reused.
I was wondering if everyone is reusing them?

If so what stretch are you getting from the bolts when you are going 16 ft lbs ++?

Does anyone know what new bolts are stretching to with 16 ft. lbs ++?

I use new bolts every time...
have never measured the stretch. I have always followed the book by torqing and then turning the 90deg. more

MIke you have built the 12 motor up more than most possibly, but don't the book say 120deg more? Not that I have the book in memory I was looking at that very spec yesterday is all.

You might be correct on the degree of turn, I dont have my book in front of me, I was thinking 2 flats and that is about 180 I guess? LOL... hey I can be wrong once a year, i guess I burnt this one early..
I still use new, I will check my gaps, with the old, but I use new on the rebuild...

I also replaced mine on both builds. Cheap insurance IMO.

Basically I was curious and wanted opinions on this. Several automotive applications also want new rod bolts each time and its proven not to be needed as long as the bolt stretch is within range. The bolts go out of range after 4-5 retorquings. So as long as you check stretch and pay attention you can reuse.
I was wondering if this was also the case on the zx12r rod bolts. Seeing as this would be just the 2nd retorquing.

I'll get the new bolts just to be safe on this one.
But i'll still check the stretch on the 2nd retorque of the old bolts before replacing them with the new and checking the stretch on those.

Thanks again guys.

IMHO,
It's OK to re-use a couple times if you measure the stretch. How much should they stretch? I don't know.
But I'd find out by buying a new one and doing a test torque/stretch. I had new ones available so I replaced them.
