Lip inside ZX12R head
Hey guys, it's come to my attention that the ZX12R head is somewhat flawed. There seems to be a "lip" at the bottom of each runner. What are you guys doing to fix this when doing your headwork?
I've seen a guy blend the lip in and smooth it out as best he could with a dremel tool...but it still wasn't "ideal" since there wasn't enough meat to play with. The only solution I could think of is using an epoxy to fill it in then reshape it. Is there an epoxy available that will withstand the head and the test of time, even nitrous use?
Thanks in advance

38 views and not one reply? Looks like I'm not the only guy wondering about how to fix this problem.

I think your talking about the cutter line...
I cleaned up the ports on my head and tested them before and after and got minor gains in flow. The flow at low valve lifts is where the secret power is.

Thanks for the input.
So can you elaborate more on the "secret power" gains?

Its where the cutter stops cutting in the valve bowl.

Yup.
From first glance.... you can just tell it's not good for flow..

3/8" ? yea sounds about right. Theres not alot of big gains smoothing it as you would think. Its pretty minimal. 1/8" on each side of the valve seat is where attention to detail is needed. Now that the bore is increasing i'm looking into doing even more chamber work around the intake valves. There was some small gains in that area last time i had the head on the flow bench. But i was limited in how much material i could remove due to compression concerns. I couldnt tighten the quench areas anymore so it would reduce compression as well as increase mid and high lift flow nymbers. So it was a trade off. Now with 13.5 to 1 i have some room to play with chamber volume again.
