Another sad day for redelk
On the day after Christmas, my 79 year old father fell out of the bed and broke three of his ribs. What was to be a brief stay in the hospital turned out to be extended due to his frail health prior to his fall. On Saturday morning, he took a turn for the worse and was moved to the ICU.
Though he was struggling during our visit with him on Monday, he was more alert and responsive than any other time since his admission to the hospital. We had to "take turns" since only two family members are allowed in ICU at a time. After my children and myself had visited with him, my Mother and sister were with him when he went to sleep.
At 4:30 pm on Jan. 2nd, my beloved father passed away.
Many here remember the untimely passing of my older brother due to alcoholism. I still am extremely thankful and appreciative of everyones' support and well wishes.
There is so much I would want to share will all of my friends and "extended family" here about the wonderfully blessing I had in being able to say that Gene Guy McCoy IS my father. Its just that all of this was unexpected and I will be busy in helping with the daunting tasks of making funeral arrangements and dealing with many of his personal belongings that mother wishes to be taken out of their home.
I just want to thank all of y'all for your understanding and support. Especially Fish and Princess Kiwi.
I love ya, Dad.

Redelk,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! The positive side of this sad experience is that you had 70+ years with your father and he knew that you loved him and as we all know....he is in a better place! That doesn't make the pain any less so I pray for a healing for you and your family.
Take Care,

Sherman: if there is anything we can do say the word.
Time will heal, and remember the joyous times and memories that he gave you. Those truly make a person immortal to those that loved them.

Red, the way I see life is at Birth your Dad and Mom carry you because you cannot carry yourself (This is why I helped Carry my Dad at the Funeral) Then you get older and the Adversary relation Starts with you eventually "Trying" the Old Man to see who really is in charge (Usually somewhere between 14 and 18). Hopefully your Mother is near by to save you because you soon find that they have muscles made out of Steel. Then in your 20's you start to realize who he was dealing with and maybe he did not do so bad of a job but of course you could have done better. Then in your 30's you start to find out just how cool and neat he really was and is and then by the time you reach your 40's he is one of if not your "Best Friend" and you really start to have a great time.
Problem is, this is also the time the Lord realizes that he has served his purpose here and Takes him away from you. It Hurts Like Hell and with tears in my eyes right now I can feel all of the Pain and Hurt I felt about 18 years ago. My Dad and I had the Best talk of our life only 2 days before he died. Is was the end of February 1988 and today I still Miss the Hell out of him just like you will also. I am so sorry that you are now going through this.
To the people that still Have their Dads, remember and understand that nothing you do will ever be perfect in their eyes because they only want everyone else to know that you are the Best and you are "HIS" Son and he is Proud of you. Enjoy them while you have them and consider making things right if they are not because an Accident can take them early and you do not want to deal in Regret!
Red, I hope you know exactly how I feel and know how you feel. I would have done anything for you not to be where you are right now!

Hey Sherman,
You know you have the numbers of a bunch of people here that would jump without hesitation to help in any way they could (especially me). But sometimes the only thing anyone can do is to say will do anything, and mean it. That seems to help best.
Take care of Mom, it's what worked for me. Being a proud son is the best tribute you can give to him.
My best to you in deaiing with the emotions as you work through the details.
Oh, if you need anyhing.........................

I am very sorry about your loss, redelk. Best wishes for sure in this hard time. I had -- from his nature and some of his acts -- a pretty distant relationship with my father but even so his death, at a very similar age, hit hard. It has to be harder yet when a dad and a relationship like yours, so very definitely the best wishes possible.
