I sure do.

It was about 95F out, 5:00 p.m. rush hour traffic in the city, and that baby was running H-O-T in bumper to bumper traffic.

After about 10 minutes of that crap I hit the residential streets and took the cooler way home.

What I still remember is how light the 12 felt compared to my '98 ZX-11.

And the new bike smell.

Ahhhh yeah, I remember it well. It was September 27th, 2000. Seventeen days after I had totalled my ZX11 on Little River Road over in the Smokies. (date on pic is wrong )

Look at Lil' Red, bone stock and totally unaware of the flogging she'd be subjected to. It's still a great bike today.

Case and point.

I can't believe I wasted money on digital cameras when these old scans of 35mm prints are so sharp and clear.

Oh yah, what a day!!
The only part that sucked was that I wanted to go fast but didn't want to break the "break in" rules.

Did anyone else on this site besides me get a green one with the "shredded" grapics?
I don't remember seeing any owner pictures of one.

I remember the 3rd day. I picked it up on a friday night about 5:00. Rode it to Maine Saturday am. Woke up in the am on monday and didnt see it sticking up above the hedge. I figured it either got stolen or fell over. I poured a cup of coffee and walked over there and it fell over. So its always had some scratches on the left side. Not really noticeable.

Oh well. Got it right out of the way early.

I remember back in 2000 I was right smack dab in the middle of a NASTY Divorce. Most people thought it was the divorce that I was so upset over, BUT! It was the fact that on top of an already bad situation I knew that I wouldn't ever be able to have a Brand New "A" model 12R. The woman was replaceable, but the first 12s were going to be gone forever and I wouldn't have one. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FLASH FORWARD to Dec 04...........I'm reading a paper shopping for shop tools and as I always do I checked to see if anyone was selling any bikes really cheap. BINGO!!! A Brand Spankin New Silver 01!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it was only one state up. One day later I'm there with a trailor and HISTORY was set right for me after 4 years.

Women will come and women will go, BUT no matter what else I own the 12 will always STAY!!!!!!!!!! I have more Green Blood that Dr. Spock The 12er is special beyond all description.........

like 12r1, i'll never be able to duplicate that feeling. end of march 2000, first and only new vehicle i have owned, and coming off an 82 nighthawk 450 it was a whole new experience. man did it feel good. drove home slowly in medium traffic, and then to real home next day (i think) which was a beautiful road for get to know her on (big local weekend warrior destination). few days later i took her some 80kms north onto another destination road, about 5 degrees C and 10'+ snow banks on either side, but a clear, dry road. i cant believe i have NO pics from that time poor baby looks nothing like she did back then anymore. i can't believe that was almost 6 years ago!

It all damned nigh brings a tear to my eye. A fine thread boys, a fine thread indeed.

My 12R may be 6 years old, but damned if I don't still love the thing. I figured it'd be like most other bikes I've had, hell women too. Ya know, once the new wore off you were ready to ship them down the road and replace them with a "newer, hotter" model. It just ain't happened yet. Oh sure I've ridden all the 1ks except the CBR, and I love the light weight and the handling. Who wouldn't???? But the way my old A1 model fits me, and the kick ass grunt that motor STILL has,...well it keeps me smiling. Still very content with it.

I put a fresh "ghetto" clutch in Saturday and got to road test it yesterday as temps reached 60 degrees. It felt great to have a clutch that the motor wouldn't drive through. But the downside was the ol' BT014 was gettin' shredded with ease.

I just hate it when that happens.
