Gunner, It takes balls to "just take the brakes off completely" and use your engine and feet to stop. It takes maturity to have a discussion about perspectives that you currently don't possess or understand without getting defensive.
Yep, Entropy did this same mod some 2 years ago and posted all about it when he did..... However, he has always....(well most of the time,,,,hehe) presented himself without getting defensive or personally cursing and name calling others. Thusly, the response of the board is different, because his reply's are not immature or defensive even if he does not agree.
I have read ALOT of threadst that I really felt like I saw the perspective that 238 was responding on many different subjects. But honestly, on this site, there are those (myself included) that are not particularly thin skinned. Plus, I am always posting with the mindset, that someone will post something to challenge or EXPAND what I am trying to express. 238 has been here and been one of those that didn't mind challenging or flat out insulting others. So gunner, defending a grown immature man really does nothing to help him be more mature. What you should be doing is telling him to take sometime for self reflection.

Entropy, like you said, its a mod that's "not for everyone". I'm sure that it works great at the strip and is probably more than safe to do for those that wish to check it on a reasonable and regular basis. Maybe even for street applications. Again, as long as it is checked on a regular basis.
In other words, I will not argue that by doing such is not a valid option to attain a desired result.
On the other hand, IMHO, removing the dust seals might not be a reasonable option in some applications.
One of those applications might be on road race bikes that participate in many hours of endurance racing that takes place in all kinds of weather conditions (i.e. rain). The other might be for the average street rider how might think the maintain their bike, but might not bother to pay the extra attention such a mod MIGHT require.
I just think that what is great for one aspect of sportbike riding, might not be for others and for someone have such a problem with there front wheel, might choose to remove the seals as a "easy fix" when some other issue or issues might exist.
Over the years, I've had similar problems with both my personal bikes, as well as our team's road racing bikes. It just that I sought "other solutions" that had probably equally successful results as the mod you speak of.
Since I had never heard of such a brake mod before and in both my ignorance and inexperience of such, I would not have thought of doing it to achieve a smoother rolling front wheel. Of course, then again, I have also sat for hours polishing caliper pistons and axles, so I might be a little "out there" too.
I remember when I had my 12R, I noticed that when one looks at the relationship of the calipers to the rotors on the 12R, one might notice that the left caliper (as you are looking at the front of the bike) is not centered over the rotor like the right one is. This is due to gap between the wheel and the fork tube on the left side.
Of course, this uneven gap between the fork tubes (and mounting points for the calipers) and the wheel (and the rotors attached to them) is old news. After all, not only did Y2K mention it, but it was also mentioned in the Kawasaki Service Bulletin MC 00-04 (ALL) - Proper spacing of front wheel (info included service bulletin, A&P sheet and service manual addendum), shortly after the bike was introduced.
I leaned a "trick" from Mark Day concerning caliper alignment. He (and later, myself) used a small washer with the each of the caliper bolts. The washer was located on each caliper bolt, between the caliper and the fork tube. If the proper thickness washer was used, it would realign the caliper to where it was centered over the rotor. Just like the other caliper.
I felt that this seemed to help, even if it was just in my own mind. Again, I am in no position to debate the merits and possible drawbacks of your mod. Thus, that is why I did not comment on it. I just know that for me, it is one I would not likely do myself (and why I put the "SERIOUSLY" in my reply to Y2K). Be it my bike or any of the team's road racing bikes, I guess I'd have to say that I just to have the "balls" to try such a mod and I agree with gunner, one might think about it first. Just my opinion, though.
As far as the tone of the replies to Jere doing the mod, it too did not concern me. Opinions are like assholes and some can be one in express their's (like me). Still, for the most part, I leave that to be sorted out by those involved.
I only make a comment when I PERSONALLY believe that the statements have gone beyond the point what I believe to be mere name calling and gets far too "personal". Jere's comments concerning the crash of Ra's girlfriend, in my opinion, crossed that line.
I am hardly rallying to Ra's defense. He's a big boy and can defend himself. Ra will be the first (and I the second) to point out that he and I rarely agree on many topics. That point is irrelevant when someone makes light of someone else crashing. Be it that one aggravated the other into it or not. The fact that I believe one could consider Ra's remarks were not "gentlemanly", does not matter to me either.
That would also apply to when Jere's comments about bike maintenance became more "general" to the membership here. I won't get into a pissing contest of who does or doesn't maintain their bike more that someone else (unless we're talking about Harry). Its not worth my time and I wouldn't "win" anyway.
To say that this was the first time someone disagreed on these forums, in what can be viewed by some in a less than "respectful" manner would be laughable. I could not count the number of times "it got dirty" in the various threads here. In most cases, the result was there was no "victor", nor was the "issue" ever settled. Usually, the reason why is because it strayed from the actual topic and got personal or just a bunch of accusations got thrown around.
That's where I believe this thread ended up at and feelings were hurt. I'm sorry that it went down that way, but I'm just a lowly moderator, not a playground councilor.
I apologize for my "SERIOUSLY" comment and the doubt (mine only) of validity of your mod it might have created. Again, that mod just isn't my "cup of tea" and my reply to Y2K would have likely been better off without injecting my personal, unsubstantiated beliefs into it.

Anyone who needs to make a post pointing out all the reasons he or she "should" be respected is the last person to deserve said respect.
Those who deserve it...will obtain it without having to resort to "message board marketing" and telling his or her life story pointing out how he or she is better than everyone else.

Guys take into account that many of you guys know each other and that in itself lends respect to your opinions between each other. Damn I'm not entirely sure I even understood that  The point is many times a guy gets pulled into a subject that he's helpless to defend his point against the established group. When that happens a guy (myself included) will start pulling up past accomplishments in an effort to lend creditability to his opinion. This thread that we're speaking of found Jere flailing in the wind with NO Alies to back his position. He done the natural thing and started trying to build an instant reputation for himself. It's all about the circles in which we run. 15 years ago I knew everyone in my town that was reputable and they all knew me. After being completely away from bikes since 1996 I completely dropped off the radar. Perfect example is Mark Day and Luck12. We're both from the same town and yet we've never met. He came along during my absents and made a hell of a mark for himself and BIG RED. Does this mean I'm out of touch? Yes, But in 1 year back I'm working HARD to recover some kind of position in my area. Looks like the last portion of my days on earth will be just exactly like the first portion. Knee DEEP in motorcycles. It's what I do and who I am. I can live with it. BACK to the point. Jere HAS REALLY done all this shit he talks about! It must be upsetting to a guy whom has done so much to be talked down to like a fool. In fact I'm sure it is. Jere will never run in the circles that you guys run in. I will most likely NEVER run there either. But give credit to the possibility that perhaps guys like Jere and myself were running in those circles long before you guys broke onto the scene. Exactly like Myself and Mark Day. The one and only saving grace for myself not having to completely start from scratch in my own town is the fact that the Shop owner at my local dealer is still the same guy. Thank God for small favors I guess.
Give the guy a break and entertain the idea that he's a better thinker than talker. JUST A THOUGHT
