cam measurements question

To Board:'

I basically want to make the bike more peaky.. Right now the bike is making peak power at 10,750 with the akrapovic.. I want to move the power band to the right and make peak power at 11,500. I know with more duration I can move the power band to the right and have less below 5,000 rpm.s

It sound like my effective lift and duration should be the measurements at 50 degrees..

supra

p.s. I also have the extended rev ecm

Supra,
If you "make it more peaky" you will make it slower under any condition except a roll on from 9000 to rev limiter. Who is leading you down this path?

Thanks Doug:

Actually tinkering and figuring is what I enjoy doing.. Keeps the wife in the house and me in the garage.. I found the stock specs on the 12r cams:

lift numbers: .359 in/.342 ex
duration at .050 is 244in/238 ex

Im looking for something a little more nasty and still be able to keep most of my drivability. I want to take the most advantage of my extended rev limiter

I got the lift numbers from Webcamshafts..

Megacycle makes a .377lift intake and 253 duration at .050..

I'll probably go with that for the intake cam and .369 and 252 @.050 for the exhaust cam.. This should be streetable without losing to much bottom end..

I told you what the numbers were a week and a half ago when you asked..

Look here. I posted the numbers. http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=1&TID=20413&set_time=

Right off megacycle's website. Look where it says STOCK 2000 ZX-12 CAMS.

no...but it appears that the cam specs on the zx9r, zx10r, and zx12r are identical..

something tells me that the 10r has the same lift specs but probably more duration... I have a lot more research to do before I do anything.

The lift numbers I posted are actual lift at the valve I measured. I could understand a few thousandths difference but these numbers arnt even close.

You might want to contact megacycles and find out whats up.

I got those lift numbers from webcam as well as megacycle and another guy on this posting.. They gave me the lift and the duration @.050.. If your numbers are correct they maybe this is the crazy "restriction" fearsome k is talking about..

recommended cam for a stock zx12r were .383/.369 and 253/252 duration @.050 this is the cam webcam sells,

The 00 and 01-04 cams have different part numbers what is the difference besides the cam angle sensor?

Nope. Don't need to. Megacycle did it for me. They have been doing motorcycle cams for many many years. I'm sure they know how to measure valve lift...

Call them and ask. I don't need to find out. I already know. They told me what the stock numbers were and I have no reason to doubt them. I was running the .385 intake and .385 exhaust cams in my 12 for a while. I did measure those and they measured very close to what megacycle says.

I would say you need to check your measurements again.

No. I ran those cams in my 1375 stroker motor. They preformed well in that motor. It is pretty much a race only bike so I wasn't too worried about driveablity.

Sorry I can't be more help.

Has anyone else on the board actually measured the lift of the stock zx12r cams?

I guess i could have screwed up measuring, or wrote down the wrong numbers.... but I'd be surprised if i did.

Y2KZX12R,

I personally have not. Now I wish that I would have. It would be interesting to compare our numbers.

Sorry I can't help.
