Mine are not... I dumped the stock brake lines long ago... individual SS braided lines
that are separate and independent of each other... That is an upgrade you should
consider if you're worried about losing front brakes...
I don't want to argue about things that depend on personal preference, but when You accuse me for just saying different opinion and being rude and at the same time You're talking rubbish on mechanical things I answered back.
And about the upper quote - I thought that You would answer that and it only shows that You don't know what You are talking about. Its still the same hydraulic line even if You have two different brake lines from the master cylinder, only difference is that Your setup just separates the lines earlier than the OEM setup. As RA said to have two independent brakes You would need two master cylinders not just two lines.
My answers on this thread were only to make sure You (and every other biker that reads this) are awere that the mod also has down sides when regarding maintenance and faults. If You look back to my first post I can't see it being rude and Yet You were calling me names!?! I maybe Younger than You but my first motorcycle trip was even before I was born! So my full life has been dealing with bikes and I've serviced and built many motors both in bikes, ATV,etc. As usually I try to keep this forum technical - with couple very minor ecceptions to people who I know.

For anyone to suggest that it was because of your maintenance on her bike, is one of the meanest things I have ever heard uttered out of one bikers mouth to another biker.
If these types of unfounded slanderous comments continue, I will have to ask to ask the moderator of this site to lock this thread.
If he wasn't responsible for checking out here bike, then who the hell was???
I feel bad that she crashed... I really do, but at least be man enough to take the
responsibility ofr not going over the bike, namely the master cylinder, before you put
someone out on a race track...
Now if THAT offends someone, actually taking responsibility for something that they ARE
responsibile for... well, I'm sorry I'm not polictially correct enough.
Slug, yes, you can buy masters with two ports to keep everything separate.
I'm done with this whole mess of a post... last time I'll mention anything technical...
and the funny thing is that I simply caried out a mod that SOMEONE ELSE POSTED....
which did work by the way and I thank you...

It does work... and I didn't "invent" the mod, I simply did what the other member
PREVIOUSLY POSTED... (Entrophy) and thanks, my brakes work great now...

I'm just needing a little clarification on this one comment. Out of curiousity... who makes such a MC? Our endurance team might have an interest in such a unique MC, if indeed it is better.
This next question is just one of simple ignorance, so please forgive me. If indeed a dual port MC was "superior" to a conventional single port (i.e. a Brembo 19X18), why are they not prevalent on the bikes at most road racing venues?
Though the various braking systems I saw in the paddocks at Laguna Seca were trick, be it Superbike or Moto GP, I don't remember seeing any dual port configurations. Of course, I could be way wrong.
In the case of almost unlimited resources available to the mechanics and manufacturers in Moto GP, both financially and engineering technology, I would think that a dual port configuration would be common place, instead of the lowly single port Brembo.
Again, it is only due to my ignorance, but the possible advantages of dual ports escapes me if we are still dealing with fluids moved by a single piston. Or is there a dual piston configuration included in the dual port MC? If so, doubling the number of components (seals, springs, etc) seems like a rather inefficient and unreliable method to accomplish effective braking on a sportbike. Again, I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.
Oh... and yeah, though I don't have 35 years of riding experience and only a few decades at turning wrenches (substantially less on race bikes), I've rebuilt more than my fair share of 12R and 7R (P series - the only difference in their 6 pot Tokico is the color) calipers. Not to mention rebuilding a more than a few Nissin, Magura and Brembo MCs.
The only time a dealer's shop has turned a wrench on my bike is when the entire transmission of my 7R was replaced (from the input to the output shafts) on a warranty claim. Even though it was just a bent shift fork, the dealer's mechanic and I thought it best to simple replace everything on a tranny that had 63K mile on it.
Having dealt with brake issues occurring during enduros, hare scrambles, sprint and endurance racing (a lot can go wrong during a 8 hour race on the 2.9 mile high bank track at TWS), to assume that a mere "complete prerace inspection" of a brake system will always assure proper brake performance is.... well, laughable at best. I do thank you for humoring me though.
To require a race bike to rapidly slow down from 150 to something like 30 MPH about a thousand times or more during a single 6 or 8 hour endurance can do funny things to brake systems. Who would have thought, eh?
I wonder haw many runs in the low 9's it would take to equate the same demands on a bike's braking system? Oh wait... doing such all day would hardly raise the fluid temp about ambient. Nevermind.

This is pretty fuckin stupid though. If somebody wants to do something to "THEIR" bike and post up about the mod they did. Then they should be able to. If you don't like it or don't agree with it, don't talk in the thread. People need to learn to mind their own fucking buisness when it comes to somebody elses belongings. When "YOU" pay for his toys then you can keep bashing him for it, until then "SHUT UP! GAWD!" .

NinjaNick - I'll even make it even more simple for ya...
If you don't want people to talk about it - don't post it.
(and if you are doing something really really dumb to your bike, not saying anyone here would do anything dumb to their bike, take pictures....it makes it so much easier for people who know better - to point and laugh)

gunner,
You seem to personally know 238; please, PLEASE get him to put those dust seals back before Homeland Security finds out!!!
Also, please let 238 know that ONLY IN TEXAS is it grammatically correct to say "does your front wheel spin good"
The other states have to say "does your front wheel spin well"

Guys Jere's an engineer amoung other things and he's constantly thinking of better ways to do something. He's very aware of the safety issues with what he has done, and is willing to maintenance his brakes accordingly. This mod isn't for everyone that's for sure. Some folks won't even keep their chain adjusted correctly. I wouldn't be afraid to do this mod myself because I regularly inspect all vital parts of my bikes. Ever watch Valinteno inspect his shit before he straps his ass on and takes off. Even with a herd of mechanics watching over it he still looks it over himself. I have made a living in the racing world for nearly 20 years. My top position was working on a NHRA 500" Pro Stock Car team. I worked in the motor shop during the week and was responsable for the Back half of the car at the track. I'm no stranger to maintenance on a high performance car or bike. I personally don't think what Jere has done is walking on the wild side. We regularly see guys taking one of the front brakes off their 12s and never say a word about that. That equals cutting the braking by 1/2!! Yet we're all OK with that. Those factory calipers are made to be idiot proof. They're designed for someone to abuse and NEVER take care of until they totally seize up from lack of maintenance. All Jere has done is take a street oriented part and convert it to a racing style part that requires very close attention to be payed to it. Now being a trained engineer Jere would know these little trick that all engineers do to cover their ass when they design a part. 95% of all parts are designed to take a lot more abuse that what the general public is ever made aware of.

I haven't personally seen a dual port master. I have seen two masters activated by a single pedal in a car situation, but they were completely separate masters. It may exist out there somewhere but I've not seen it yet.

Uh, I don't wanna get involved with any of the smack-talk above, but I do want to humbly report I once read some interview of a racer who said he opted for a dual-port mastercylinder for safety reasons after "seeing one of his racing buddies go through a wall with a brake failure".
I think he admitted it was unusual, but he insisted his bikes have that type of cylinder. I think he also hinted there was some drawback to that type, but he wanted the extra safety. (Extra lever-travel pushing two pistons?)
Sorry I don't remember more details, but for those genuinely interested I'm just letting you know to keep looking for it, I think it's out there.

one thing i don't understand: it has been mentioned that regular inspections, or even anal maintenance (don't get the wrong idea smackhouse boys), is what's needed to keep running without dust seals safe. i can't help but wonder tho, how do u inspect dust seals without pulling the calipers? ya'll gonan do that every time you go for a ride?

Just the other day in one of the mags such a master cylinder was mentioned. Forget who made it, some relatively small outfit.

Just to let y'all know
238mph has retired from bikeland, as a result of this post and one in the Smackhouse.
I am sure he has people here that will speak for him, but he felt as if the membership did not give him the respect he deserved.
Should he cool off and come back, could y'all please try to treat him a little more respectfully, as he as sensitive as he is knowlegeable.
Thank you.
