tip speed is about 150, and on our site bats are more common than birds for getting headaches.

averages out to maybe a dozen a year per turbine. One of the true negatives about the machines. For some reason bats can't seem to stay away from the blades. Thankfully we haven't had any raptors get whacked, the environazis get their feathers ruffled badly over that.

Not for lack of them, we have several red-tailed hawks that call the site home. But they seem to be smart enough to stay away from the blades.

Full production on site is 27 MW, which is somewhere around 3000-5000 homes, depending on electric loading. Unfortunately the wind is variable so we don't get full production every day.

(though if the wind never slowed down we'd never be able to do certain maintenance items sooooo)

diameter is 80 meters, hub height also is 80 meters. each blade is 135 ft or so.

Anyone here do any ATV riding at windrock atv club?

Feed us slug! I've always wandered what those were and used for.
In central Illinois this year I was passing through and saw over 50 maybe of those suckers.
Very cool indeed.
Though I must say "I HATE HEIGHTS!!" So looking up at one from the ground I get pretty fricken dizzy man. Kudos to you! I envy people that can get up that high and work like it's nothing. I wish I had the nerves to be able to enjoy life up higher. I know I'm missing alot, but I guess I'm not meant to be up high as others are.

Any more info you can share about those things? Post-up, I want to learn.

Who builds them? How long they take to build? Anything in the poles, or just up around the blades? How can the wind make those huge things spin? How is it assembled? Cuz I know it's too big to take down the highway...

Oh btw Jere!!....

you might be right, but my front was dragging so bad it wouldn't spin a full revolution.

I thought that was normal until I spun the front wheel of a Ducati and it went forever. After my lil brake fix mine now spins like that Duc, even 18mo after the "fix".

Now I can see why you go by Phycho!!!!!! Because a statement like this is crazy

And that Duc probably has Brembo brake components I would guess.

I had my bike up on stands, and I noticed that when I spin the dront wheel, it only goes maybe one rev, and stops... pads dragging. Is that normal??? I never noticed before
whether they drag or not...So I did all new lines and pads, as it's a 2002... and it still drags... This has to suck some HP ... now it's become an obsession... What can I do to get them to release fully... I've bled them real good, absolutely no air in the lines...
Anyone?

Since I went to the Dymags it REALLY spins good on the stand. If the calipers are off, & I give the wheel a good spin, it will go 5+ minutes before stopping/maybe a hundred+ rotations? I guess they put good bearings in them?

I later went to the EBC's (Turbo Race SS), & it didn't seem to make any feelable difference in braking or drag. I've noticed since I went to the Muzzys PF Carbon pads, the drag was reduced once the pads were broke in. At first they drug/dragged like crazy, until i got some miles on them. Now it freewheels nicely....

EBD,
In trying to determine the relative advantage of ceramics i have done a bunch of spinning wheels with marvic and OEM, with the ceramic bearings and with OEM.

In my tests (w/OEM bearings) the Marvic spun shorter (about 5 min) than the OEM wheel (about 6 min). Not surprising given that the heavier OEM has a higher rotational moment of inertia.

Your results may vary

There are more things that cause a wheel to drag than the calipers on the zx12. It always amazes me when guys get overly defensive, when confronted on a "edgy" mod.

I will say this, 238 if you truly have 35 years of riding, then how could something as important as keeping the brake caliper cylinders clean be minimized?!?! I truly miss the wisdom being applied after 35 years of riding!!! Having rebuilt calipers myself...(very easy) and having had a 77' corvette that had a never ending caliper problem, and having my girl CRASH at the track because her front calipers FAILED, and having seen others CRASH from brake failure I am "SUPPOSED TO LEARN" something. But, alas I am young and surely allowing MORE DIRT in the caliper pistons would have helped my girl.

If you 238 want to do your mod, then do it. But, please post the downside to this mod!!! There are newbie guys without longterm knowledge that could end up hurting themselves or them and a passenger. When break fail, they generally do not give a warning. Plus, the calipers are NOT neccessarily the problem for poor tire spin. The way the bearings are lubricated can have a strong effect on free whell tire spin. Besides 700 lbs at 40MPH even with some drag requires ALOT of lever to stop coasting.

Ra,, I already posted that by doing this, a person would need to perform MORE scheduled
manintenance on the calipers...

2nd, my bike did this from day one, even as new....

3rd, with no calipers on the bike, the front wheel spins for 5 minutes or more so once again
IT IS NOT THE WHEEL BEARINGS... geesh, this has been stated about 10 times...

NOW my brakes don't drag, and no they don't need to be pumped up while braking...

Last, brakes NEVER fail in a catastrophic way... the design is so simple there is no
way for that to happen... after a LONG time, the first thing that might occur would be them to start
leaking and it would be one side first, leaving the other side to still brake... and IF some
brake fluid did manage to get on a rotor, it would start to SMOKE like hell as rotors get
red hot...

Is there really a point here, or do you just like to argue???

As for your girlfriends crashing as a result of caliper failure... I'd really like to hear
more about this... You mean she locked up her front wheel and went down???
Ahhh, sounds like rider error... (Did you teach her to ride??? )

Or are you going to say she had no brakes and went into a wall... hmmmm check the
fluid next time... You are the one that gave a lecture to me about doing more maintenance...
I should think that BEFORE you put your girl on the track, you would check her bike!!!

Damn dude... you might want to retract your whole post!!! It makes you look really stupid.

Front brakes on bikes are on the same hydraulic line so a leak on anywhere leaves the whole system without pressure and so without stopping power.

Thank you tuusinii! Maybe 238 would like to retract his whole post........??? I am not posting mechanical ignorance.

For notation, the bike my girl crashed on was a master cylinder failure. I checked the bike after the accident and it still had NO LEVER and NO LEAK. So please 238, I never make a joke about a fellow biker going down! Secondly, everthing behind why I counter posted your mod is to PREVENT any possible equation that would cause a fellow biker to go down.

Mine are not... I dumped the stock brake lines long ago... individual SS braided lines
that are separate and independent of each other... That is an upgrade you should
consider if you're worried about losing front brakes...

With the stock rubber brake lines running off a T in the middle, you are right, break a line
and you lose all the function of your brakes... That has NOTHING to do with this mod...

And RA, so much for being an ASS to me... this mod has NOTHING TO DO with the
master cylinder, so all your busting my ass about this mod is totally unrelated.

I'm sorry your girl went down, but it just shows me that :

#1 You don't bother to do maintenance on a TRACK bike, which requires much more
attention to detail...ESPECIALLY when it's for your girl, AS SHE IS TRUSTING YOU to
make sure the bike is safe...

#2 You're quick to tell me that I'm slack on my maintenance... ah again, take care of your
own shit before you tell me how to take care of my shit...

#3 You and your bro Tussy are all about arguing, even when you don't have shit to stand
on... so fuck off you two... I'm tired of your stupid shit.

I do have a Q about this one, how do they seperate at the top of the system? is it a special banjo at top? or are there 2 ports on your master cyl?

reason i ask is my yammie has 2 lines, but it uses a common banjo at the top. opening bleeder on either caliper loses all lever pressure. Does your master cyl have dual setup like cars do, one services one line, the other the second? THAT would IMHO be a worthwhile mod, which would prevent brake failure due to single caliper failure.

i never did like the T-split at caliper brake lines...but more from power mismatch to each side (though likely to be minimal at full braking) than from a failure standpoint. I understand the *slight* reduction in weight, but come on KHI, it's a HUGE bike another 10 ounces isn't gonna kill its overall weight numbers

I've just recently learned that those seals are what's keeping the bad guys at bay !!!!!!!! Jeeze O Pete I also recently learned of a guy who seized a motor while doing a huge wheelie and was killed. WE SHOULD ALL MAKE DOUBLE SURE TO NEVER LET THE FRONT WHEEL OFF THE GROUND AGAIN!!!! For safety reasons

Ra12r - sorry to hear that your girl crashed, I am sure it WAS NOT YOUR FAULT.

For anyone to suggest that it was because of your maintenance on her bike, is one of the meanest things I have ever heard uttered out of one bikers mouth to another biker.

If these types of unfounded slanderous comments continue, I will have to ask to ask the moderator of this site to lock this thread.
