Excellent read Doug!!!! I am fortunate enough to have gotten to see the very B-17 you got to fly in at an air show a few years back. (Halls, Tennessee)
My best friends grandfather was a tailgunner in a B-24 during the war. We lost him a year ago. He was without a doubt one of the most colorful people I have ever met in my life. I miss hearing his stories, as he was one hell of a storyteller. He told many stories about his going to war, and surviving so he could come back to the states. I often had to remind myself after one of his stories that he was just a kid when he was over there. He was a tough old cuss that you couldn't help but like. He did things his way, and didn't give a damn what anyone else thought.
