Physics Part 11 - Which color is the fastest?

Which color, between red and blue, is the fastest?

When the light bends through the prism, can we say that the red is the fastest? Nearly all the time, yes.

One particular kind of glass, for example, the index of refraction (c/v, where c is the speed of light in vacuum and v is the speed of a particular frequency of light in glass) is 1.514 for red light and 1.54 for blue light, so in this case the red light travels at c/1.51, and the blue light travels at c/1.54.

The result is that red light travels 2% faster than the blue light.

So does this mean that all things considered equal, red motorcycles travel faster than blue motorcycles?

How about when it is not bending through a prism?

If we projected an american flag to some planet light years away for a short period of time, would both colors show up seperately?

For that matter, If our astronomers captured a supernova on film, from start to finish, wouldn't it start out red and end up violet then? (roygbiv)
(the time it shifts from color to color depending on how far it is away, giving time for colors to "out-race" each other)

Beans, have you ever seen a "frequency chart" that shows how radiation and light and sound, all the electronic transmision frequencies humans use and all other things wave related, blend into one single (long) range of frequencies?
This one shows how the radio bands are broken down specifically but has the overall chart that i was talking about at the very bottom. http://www.ntia.doc.gov/osmhome/allochrt.pdf

Do you think the frequency of red has given it the "speed advantage" ?

I think that Kawasaki knows about speed and what I have noticed is that Kawasaki paints most of their bikes the Candy Thunder Blue !!!

yes red is the fastest. take me for instance. since 2000 me and my RED ZX12R have raced at least 15 zx12r's of every year.( you can have a pipe,pc, -1 on front sprocket ,air or electric shifter ,filters but no internal engine mods except billet basket ) and around 15 busa's set up the same and beat everyone. i have 31,000 miles and the original clutch pack with muzzy billet basket and a 05 hub i modded. i have say 75 1/4drag strip passes on the bike. my favorite is a 30 to 40 mph punch off in first gear on the street till they know it's over. it's a wheelie fest. i weigh 140 on a fat day. it can be a handful fighting off the wheelies
