Chassis Alignment Question How many of you have checked your wheel alignment? My bike is over a half mark off on the swingarm and 14mm difference in measurement at the front wheel using the straight edge method. Any advice?

I haven't seen the marks right on ANY ZX12s yet...(seen at least 5)...
There was a guy at the Prostar race going VERY slow (10s! with wheelie bars and Shootout tire!!!)...I think he was afraid of the bike though (reason for bars)...
HEY! I've been telling people for YEARS...it's better to (admit to) be-ing afraid than...laying on a track/road somewhere trying to prove ANYTHING to ANYONE!!!
ANYWAY...
I tried helping him out because he said his bike was "going left"...
He was trying to set the front wheel (axle) right when I first asked what was wrong (saw the manual laying open on the ground)...he was using the book (at least he DID have manual)...poor guy...was trying to set the axle the way the ORIGINAL manual said to do it and...was wondering why the brakes were "scraping/dragging"...
He was using the marks to adjust the rear wheel also...the next day I asked and he said the marks were 1/2 a mark off...

Same with mine,1/2 mark off.Was hoping the Muzzys swing arm would be better but now its 3/4 mark off????I use the string method also!!!

How do you guys use the string method. I thought that method only worked if the front and rear tires were approx. the same width size.

Has anyone bought the Muzzys measuring device (swingarm pivot to axle), or one of the LP Laser measuring devices (same measurment?)
There used to be a device called a "Henter Wheel Aligner" you could buy, haven't seen one in decades. Do they still exist???

That distance would not be the right one; cuz if the swingarm pivot to axle distance was off, so would be the one you mentioned.
I've always heard the swingarm pivot to rear axle is the one to check...correct? I use string too (eyeballing difference in alignment of the two bead edges w/string around front tire & alongside the back), but my marks appear to be spot on. I tried adjusting it off slightly, & didn't notice any feelable difference...

Thanks guys. Good to know I'm not alone. I have a device like the Muzzy's we use in our bodyshop at work. When aligning the rear axle parallel to the swing arm pivot, however, the marks on the swingarm are right on. Then when I string it, the rear tire is pointing to the right of the center of the front wheel. Something is screwy here wabbit!

I thought I just posted to this subject. I just bought a tool for about $65 to align the wheel. You would be amazed how the string and tape measure method are inacurate. A proper alignment is esentual for proper ride.
