I now know how you vets finally feel...

Veterans for the longest time have always said....well many I've listened to have said,"I would tell the salesman what I thought if he sold some new kid a hypersportsbike."

Well my wife and I doubled up and rode to competition accessories here in Ohio on Sunday because I wanted to see if they had any bikes I haven't seen yet because we was bored. Well nothing new, so I sat on my next bike "R1, or CBR1000rr".

Well being there my wife who I am very proud of her for being so intelligent at her young age. I'm 27 and she is 18 for yall who don't know me. Anyways, she points out to me this young kid about...I would say 17 looking at bikes. He is ALL over the BUSA! I looked at her and said,"Typical young kid who knows nothing about bikes. Drooling all over the Busa because of HYPE or word on the street about it because you can tell he doesn't ride and knows nothing about bikes." She said,"Gawd people my age are sooo stupid he'd kill himself on ANY of these bikes, he needs to be over with the women looking at the 250's!" HAHAHA, I laughed and hugged her. Anyways, this kid couldn't even get on and off the bikes correct. GAWD! Every bike he sat on his foot print would be on the seat because he would never SWING his leg over he would try to step over the seat on and off...haha. I was afraid he was going to knock over the bikes. I was just waiting to be shocked. Well I sat on the R1 as my wife drooled over some 500cc learners bike. Anyways, When we put our helmets on and about to leave she laughed to me as she pointed him out leaving the parking lot BLASTING loud music in his obviously parents mini-van.

Just wanted to say I would've literally went off on any salesman that would've sold him anything over 600cc. You know what though, I bet they would've.

Just wanted to share and vent over what hyped up advertising does to americas youth.

Well Nick, as you know the truth of the matter is the current 600's are faster than open class bikes were not that long ago.

My buddy Ruben has a new 636 and that bike flat shits and gets. My buddy Mal races an R6 - same story, bike flat moves.

So, saying that new riders should be on a 600 or smaller really doesn't hold much water anymore. The current 600's will kill ya just as quick as an open class bike save for the weight difference which IMO is a negligable factor for an inexperienced rider.

Don't be too hard on the kid though man. We were all snot nosed 17 year olds once who went to the dealers and drooled over bikes we couldn't possibly afford.

The best you can hope for is that the kid drooling over the R1 (and has the money) has somebody experienced close to him that can steer him in the right direction.

We had a tragic accident in the neigborhood about a mile west of me right after I bought this house. A divorced mother (who knew squat about bikes) bought her 17 year old a new R1. He had it 2 days and was at a graduation party in that neighborhood.

One of his buddies wanted a ride, so he loaded him on the back (no helmet, no nothing).

The police report estimated the bike was doing 95 mph when it hit the curb. The kid on back flew into the bi-secting corner and his head hit a sewer drain in the curb.

Instantly killed. The 17 year old driver was tried as an adult and is doing 12-16 years for vehicular manslaughter.

Personally I think they should have jailed his mom and the salesman for being so goddamn stupid and ignorant as to give a 17 year old an R1. Might as well have gotten him drunk and given him a loaded shotgun.

Tell me Nick it's been so long ago. Are they still trainable at 18, or does 18 year olds think for themselves these days.

I think they're still trainable. We are talking about the females right? haha.

I would never go that young in a relationship, but she is really adult compared to 90% of them. She controls me sometimes because I'm 27 and still a kid. But I have a good impact on her.

Blitz! That story is AWFUL about the R1 kid.....

I was THAT GUY. the only difference was I was 32 and had $10K in my pocket....got smitten by the dealer for taking off the kickstand(03 busa) after 45 minutes of being ignored.

I remember as a kid, getting on the dirtbikes at the local dealer....As far as sitting on a new sportbike bike back in Highschool...I was scared they'de yell at me or I'd break $omething. we were all young(er) at one time, Its just that some of us got a late start on the joys of a wicked fast 2wheeler.
